Democratic National Convention to Roll Out the Blue Carpet for Guests and Creators
Matt Friend to Serve as Snapchat’s
Blue Carpet Correspondent
CHICAGO – Today, the Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) announced it will roll out the “Blue Carpet” for guests, a convening space within the United Center designed to showcase the broad and diverse Harris-Walz coalition and bring the story of the convention to the American people in new and innovative ways. Throughout the four days of convention, the Blue Carpet will serve as a hotbed of activity where distinguished surrogates, elected officials, delegates, and other Democratic voices will be invited to walk the carpet and engage with content creators and media.
“From day one of our planning, we’ve set out to bring the convention experience beyond the halls of the United Center,” said Nora Keefe, DNCC Director of Surrogate Communications. “Our Blue Carpet will be an exciting opportunity for creators and media alike to connect with delegates, leaders, and surrogates and bring the stories of the Democratic Party to the American people, wherever they’re tuning in from.”
During peak hours of convention week, a rotation of content creators will be positioned on the Blue Carpet, gathering content to share with their audiences. Comedian, actor, and impressionist Matt Friend will serve as a Blue Carpet Correspondent for Snapchat, conducting interviews with surrogates who will be featured on the social media platform. A beloved comedic figure on social media, stages, and red carpets worldwide, Friend looks forward to serving up thoughtful and funny interviews on the carpet ahead of the launch of his own new podcast, Friend In High Places, launching next month. Friend’s correspondence for Snapchat is part of the app’s larger work to help people experience the world around them by integrating real world experiences with digital content.
Since the start of this year, the Democratic National Convention team has been planning the Blue Carpet as part of its broader work to engage content creators in the democratic process, both inside and outside the hall. Outside of peak hours, the Blue Carpet will also be open to credentialed guests for photo and video opportunities.
More than 15,000 members of the media will be in Chicago to cover the convention, including more than 200 content creators for the first time ever. With Americans now consuming content and information in entirely new ways, Democrats’ goal is to meet people where they are, and that includes working with content creators whose content reaches Americans across the country.

About the 2024 Democratic National Convention
The Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) is the official arm of the Democratic National Committee responsible for planning the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago from August 19-22, 2024. The Democratic National Convention is the formal event where Democrats from all 50 states and the U.S. territories will gather in Chicago to rally behind Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz, our Democratic nominees for President and Vice President of the United States. Democrats will celebrate our achievements under the Biden-Harris Administration and chart a path for the future. Primetime programming will be held at the United Center and other party activities will be conducted at the McCormick Place Convention Center, both planned in close coordination with the Chicago Host Committee, City of Chicago, State of Illinois, and the Democratic National Committee.
The DNCC aims to build a platform for Democrats to tell our story to the American people about a proven track record of historic accomplishments and the stakes of the election. The 2024 convention will pull in more Americans than ever before, bringing back the beloved traditions of past conventions and building on the innovative elements from the virtual convention.
