May 25 - Murder of George Floyd by a police officer in Minneapolis triggers riots and looting in the succeeding days.
 
Nov. 8 - Elected Governor, def. Dr. Scott Jensen (R) by 52.3% to 44.6%.

Aug. 6 - VP Harris announces Walz as her running mate.
Aug. 21 - Acceptance speech.
Jan. 20 - Age on Inauguration Day: 60 years, 9.5 months.

Nov. 6 - Re-elected def. Allen Quist (R) by 57.5% to 42.3%.

Nov. 4 - Re-elected def. Jim Hagedorn (R) by 54.2% to 45.7%.

Nov. 8 - Re-elected def. Jim Hagedorn (R) by 50.3% to 49.6%.

Earns M.S. in experiential education from Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Minnesota National Guard deploys to Vicenza, Italy for nine months.
- Fall - After an experience at a Bush rally in Mankato, Walz volunteers on Kerry's campaign.
- Sept. - Promoted to sergeant major.
May - Retires from the National Guard.
Oct. 13 - Son Gus born.
Nov. 7 - Elected to Congress in MN CD-1, defeating incumbent Gil Gutknecht (R) by 52.7% to 47.1% in an upset.

Nov. 4 - Re-elected, def. Brian J. Davis (R) and G. Mikkelson (I) by 62.5% to 32.9% and 4.5%.

June 4 - Marries fellow teacher Gwen Whipple.
Also, the Walzes started Educational Travel Adventures, Inc., coordinating annual tours to China (to 2003).
Sept. - Arrested for drunk driving.  (Later pleads guilty to reckless driving).
Moves to Mankato.  Teaches social studies and geography at Mankato West High School and starts as defensive coordinator on the football team.


Mankato West football team wins Class 4A state championship.

Jan. - Father dies of lung cancer.  (Tim Walz was 19 years old).
Fall 1985-Spring 1986 Takes classes in social sciences at University of Houston, and joins the Texas National Guard.
Works in tanning bed factory in Jonesboro, AR, and instructor in the Arkansas National Guard.
Returns to Nebraska.

B.S. in social science education from Chadron State College.
Teaches English and U.S. history classes at Foshan No. 1 High School in Southern China.
