July 17-23, 2024: Biden Bows Out and the Harris Campaign Begins

The Trump assassination attempt and Republican National Convention pushed Biden's difficulties into the background, but Biden's COVID diagnosis on July 17 greatly heightened the pressure on him to withdraw.  As Republicans gathered in Milwaukee, the question of what Biden might do, when, and what would happen next was a major topic of conversation among reporters, with many speculating that he would make the announcement on the weekend.  In an overheard conversation, one reporter suggested that Biden should make the announcement on Thursday so as to overshadow Trump's big speech.  However, Biden still seemed to be "all in;" on July 19 the Biden campaign issued a memo stating, "Joe Biden has made it more than clear: He’s in this race and he’s in it to win it. Moreover, he’s the presumptive nominee — there is no plan for an alternative nominee."

Two days later, on July 21, Biden bowed to the inevitable, stating in a letter, "I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term."  In a second posting on X, Biden offered his "full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year."  Vice President Harris, the establishment favorite, quickly lined up a raft of endorsements.  The possibility of a open convention, spelled out in the Blitz Primary proposal
[PDF], faded.  On July 24, when Biden addressed his withdrawal in a speech from the Oval Office, the Harris for President campaign was already fully engaged.

July 17, 2024

Statement from Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre

Earlier today following his first event in Las Vegas, President Biden tested positive for COVID-19. He is vaccinated and boosted and he is experiencing mild symptoms. He will be returning to Delaware where he will self-isolate and will continue to carry out all of his duties fully during that time. The White House will provide regular updates on the President’s status as he continues to carry out the full duties of the office while in isolation.

Note from the President’s Doctor:

The President presented this afternoon with upper respiratory symptoms, to include rhinorhea (runny nose) and non-productive cough, with general mailaise. He felt okay for his first event of the day, but given that he was not feeling better, point of care testing for COVID-19 was conducted, and the results were positive for the COVID-19 virus. Given this, the President will be self-isolating in accordance with CDC guidance for symptomatic individuals.  PCR confirmation testing will be pending. His symptoms remain mild, his respiratory rate is normal at 16, his temperature is normal at 97.8 and his pulse oximetry is normal at 97%. The President has received his first dose of Paxlovid. He will be self-isolating at his home in Rehoboth.

Biden for President

Subject: Project 2025 and The Voters Who Will Decide This Election

As we’ve always said, this race will be a choice between two candidates and two contrasting visions for the future of the country.

This week, the choice has become increasingly clear to the voters who will decide this election in the battleground states. Project 2025’s poster boy, J.D. Vance cements what we’ve known for months: If Donald Trump has his way, he will remake the American government and way of life into Project 2025’s image — fewer rights, higher costs, and less opportunity for the middle class.

At the Democratic National Convention next month, the choice will become even more clear for the American people. You’ll hear a positive future for the country: better jobs, safer communities, and a steadfast commitment to protecting your rights. And Joe Biden will be there as the official Democratic nominee.

Cementing the choice for American voters this November is our campaign’s north star, but if you read some of the headlines from national news outlets, you may not think that’s the case.

But on the ground, the view is different. Don’t take my word for it: hear what our organizers are hearing when they talk to voters and ask the question that matters most to voters when they go to the ballot box: “What issue matters most to you for this upcoming election?”

  • In Bibb County, Georgia and Oakland County, Michigan, canvassers consistently met voters who were seriously concerned about Project 2025.
  • In Milwaukee, Wisconsin, canvassers met voters who thanked them for going out and doing the work on the ground while the RNC was in town, and said that they're committed to defeating Trump.
  • In Raleigh, North Carolina, canvassers heard from local voters who were concerned Donald Trump would attack women’s rights further if reelected.
And while voters consistently mention President Biden’s age when contacted, our target voters – both reengagement and true swing voters – are still planning to vote for him, making it clear the debate has not hurt support among the voters who will decide this election.

In recent weeks, we’ve seen an uptick in conversations and concerns about Project 2025 in Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Georgia. On Google, more people are searching for “Project 2025” than Taylor Swift or the NFL. And we know that the more that this campaign, and the broad, diverse coalition that stood up in historic numbers in 2020 comes together to talk about Project 2025 – which lays bare the very stakes of this election – the stronger the position we will be to win this November.

Project 2025 Was on Full Display at the RNCC. We Must Seize on It.

Donald Trump built the RNCC in the vein of Project 2025. There’s been much to-do about “unity” and “forward-looking agenda,” but the facts bely that:

  • A fact-free distortion of our country, untethered to reality, that focuses on the grievance, revenge, and retribution of Donald Trump over helping the American people.
  • Placards were handed out emboldened with “Mass Deportations Now” – hardly a message that screams “undecided voter” (and the polling says as much).
  • Under the spotlight of primetime television, Donald Trump put the architect of family separation on the convention stage.
  • And faux-populist J.D. Vance, the poster boy for Project 2025, is Donald Trump’s running mate. His steering speech Wednesday night offered a glimpse into what their policy vision is for the American people, and it’s an extension of what Trump has proposed: a whole lot of nothing for the American people, an all-out assault on women’s reproductive rights, gutting the Affordable Care Act, and raising costs on the middle class.
Voters do not like what Trump, Vance, and Project 2025 stand for. We hear it on the doors, but everyone’s favorite metric, the polls, also confirm that.

Project 2025 is Front and Center for Battleground Voters

Going into the week, Project 2025 was searched more than Taylor Swift or the NFL, but we can do a whole lot more to make Project 2025 the referendum this election is determined on – because if we do, we will win.

Just this week, Team Biden-Harris has put a relentless focus on Project 2025, with daily press conferences in Milwaukee focused on everything from abortion rights, to Social Security, to labor. On Wednesday, you heard the horrifying story of Hadley Duvall in her ad “They Don’t Care.” Across the battleground airwaves, voters will hear about her tragic story of becoming pregnant at age 12 by rape and the fortune she had to get the reproductive care she needs – and how that care is virtually nonexistent now thanks to politicians like Donald Trump and J.D. Vance. And Thursday, a new ad started running in battleground markets with a QR code sending voters to a website that outlines Project 2025’s sinister plans to make your lives worse if Trump and Vance get the chance.

On the airwaves, in the press, and on the doors, we are highlighting the stark contrast between President Biden’s positive vision for the future of this country and Donald Trump’s Project 2025 agenda to allow him to rule as a dictator on “day one,” ban abortion, and raise costs on working families.

We built a massive campaign infrastructure in the states in the early spring, and our battleground teams are rapidly expanding, adding offices and staff while growing their volunteer base so we can continue to do the hard work of engaging voters and breaking through in a very crowded media environment.

  • In Arizona, our team has more than 80 full-time staff on the ground — with plans to double our team in the coming weeks. In total, the coordinated campaign will open 18 offices, which is the most from any coordinated campaign in Arizona history. July 11 was our largest volunteer recruitment day of the campaign, a 60% increase from our next highest day.
  • In Georgia, we have more than 150 full-time staffers and 21 offices open across the state, with 7 new offices opening just this month. In the week following the debate, the campaign hosted 237 events, and we have more than 3,000 active volunteers taking action across the state.
  • In Michigan, we have 48 offices and 168 staffers across the state -- Trump has a fraction of our campaign presence. We’ve hosted nearly 200 events in July and nearly 6,000 new volunteers have taken action to support the campaign since the debate.
  • In Nevada, we are currently running the largest in-state operation of any Democratic presidential campaign ever, with over 80 staff and 13 offices across the state –- including in rural areas and the heart of the diverse communities that will be critical to our path to victory. In the past two weeks, more than 2,400 new individuals attended Biden-Harris events in Nevada, and we saw a 185% increase in event sign-ups from early June.
  • In New Hampshire, we have more than 70 full-time staff on the ground with plans to continue to build our team in the coming weeks. While Donald Trump’s campaign has little interest in investing in the Granite State, we’ve opened 16 coordinated campaign offices with more to come.
  • In North Carolina, we have more than 100 full-time staff on the ground — with plans to more than double our team by August 1. The coordinated campaign has opened 18 offices, with more to open in the coming weeks and months. July 12 was our largest volunteer recruitment day of the campaign, a 20 percent increase from our next highest day.
  • In Pennsylvania, we have more than 200 staffers in 36 offices across the commonwealth, and we’ll have 100 more staffers and 50 offices by the end of the month. In June, we had more field staff on the ground than the entire 2022 campaign. We recently had our single largest recruitment day of the cycle with 1,400 volunteer shifts, and we will hold our 1,000th event of the cycle next week.
  • In Wisconsin, we have 48 offices across 43 counties throughout every corner of the state and nearly 160 staffers, and in the month of June alone, our campaign hosted over 700 events and engaged with thousands of volunteers, making more than 250,000 calls, texts, and door knocks.
How We Win: Unite and Beat Project 2025

Joe Biden has made it more than clear: He’s in this race and he’s in it to win it. Moreover, he’s the presumptive nominee — there is no plan for an alternative nominee. In a few short weeks, Joe Biden will be the official nominee. It is high past time we stop fighting one another. The only person who wins when we fight is Donald Trump.

I will not sugarcoat the state of the race: We have our work cut out for us to win this November. We also have immense opportunity and a clear path to victory if we listen to what the voters on the ground are truly paying attention to, if we focus on the issues that matter most to the electorate in the battleground states and offer a clear choice between Joe Biden’s positive vision and Donald Trump’s extreme Project 2025 agenda.

SUNDAY, JULY 21

______

@JoeBiden
July 21, 2024

My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.

Democratic National Committee
July 21, 2024

Statement from DNC Chair Jaime Harrison

“The American people owe President Biden an enormous debt of gratitude for the unparalleled progress he has delivered over the last four years – and we will honor that legacy, and the decision that he has made today, through a firm commitment to nominating and electing a Democratic president this November who will carry that torch into the next four years.

“The work that we must do now, while unprecedented, is clear. In the coming days, the Party will undertake a transparent and orderly process to move forward as a united Democratic Party with a candidate who can defeat Donald Trump in November. This process will be governed by established rules and procedures of the Party. Our delegates are prepared to take seriously their responsibility in swiftly delivering a candidate to the American people.

“Democrats are prepared and united in our resolve to win in November. As we move forward to formally select our Party’s nominee, our values as Democrats remain the same – lowering costs, restoring freedom, protecting the rights of all people, and saving our democracy from the threat of dictatorship. We have and will continue to make this case to the American people.

“In short order, the American people will hear from the Democratic Party on next steps and the path forward for the nomination process.”

Biden for President
July 21, 2024

Statement from Vice President Kamala Harris

“On behalf of the American people, I thank Joe Biden for his extraordinary leadership as President of the United States and for his decades of service to our country. His remarkable legacy of accomplishment is unmatched in modern American history, surpassing the legacy of many Presidents who have served two terms in office.

“It is a profound honor to serve as his Vice President, and I am deeply grateful to the President, Dr. Biden, and the entire Biden family. I first came to know President Biden through his son Beau. We were friends from our days working together as Attorneys General of our home states. As we worked together, Beau would tell me stories about his Dad. The kind of father—and the kind of man—he was. And the qualities Beau revered in his father are the same qualities, the same values, I have seen every single day in Joe’s leadership as President: His honesty and integrity. His big heart and commitment to his faith and his family. And his love of our country and the American people.

“With this selfless and patriotic act, President Biden is doing what he has done throughout his life of service: putting the American people and our country above everything else

“I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination. Over the past year, I have traveled across the country, talking with Americans about the clear choice in this momentous election. And that is what I will continue to do in the days and weeks ahead. I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party—and unite our nation—to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda.

“We have 107 days until Election Day. Together, we will fight. And together, we will win.”

Priorities USA Statement on the 2024 Election

Priorities Endorses Kamala Harris

More Than Triples Anti-Trump Ad Buy To Refocus Stakes in 2024

WASHINGTON – Priorities USA Executive Director Danielle Butterfield released the following statement on the 2024 election:

“President Biden has been one of the most extraordinary presidents of our lifetime, and his record of progressive accomplishments will remain unmatched for years to come. From creating a record 15 million jobs, to expanding affordable healthcare and fighting climate change, to passing the largest gun safety law in 30 years, it’s abundantly clear that President Biden’s term will set the bar for future presidents on leading the country, steering it through one of the worst health and economic crises of our time, and creating a stronger country.

“That work is just the beginning. The coalition Biden assembled in 2020 was instrumental in defeating Trumpism once, but the threat has not dissipated. Priorities USA has been on the frontlines of working to keep Trump out of the Oval Office since 2016 – and the job isn’t done yet.

“Coming off of the past month, it is imperative that voters online hear clarity and not chaos for the remaining weeks of the election, and we must refocus voters on the stakes of 2024. Priorities USA is more than tripling our investment in our anti-Trump ad buys, extending our RNC ads through to the DNCC to remind voters of what's at stake under a Trump second term.

“Priorities USA fully stands behind Vice President Kamala Harris as our next Democratic nominee. She is the best candidate to beat Donald Trump this November.

“Our efforts to beat Trump couldn’t be more important than they are today, and Priorities USA is full speed ahead for the next 100 days.”

Trump Campaign Statement on Joe Biden and the Democrat Party's Decline and Disarray

"Crooked Joe Biden is a complete fraud and a disgrace to our Country.

Biden has left our borders wide open, allowing up to 20 million illegal aliens to enter the United States, creating a Biden Migrant Crime Wave and taxing precious resources.

Biden has taken our once-great economy and ruined it, creating record inflation and causing Americans to have to choose between groceries and gas.

Biden has been so weak, pathetic, and incompetent as a leader that he allowed 13 American servicemembers to be killed in Afghanistan, which set off a chain reaction that caused Putin to invade Ukraine and Hamas terrorists to attack Israel. World leaders are laughing at us.

And during this entire term, Kamala Harris – as well as every other Democrat in Washington, sat by and did NOTHING. They are all just as complicit as Biden is in the destruction of our once-great Nation, and they must all be thrown out of office.

Kamala Harris is just as much of joke as Biden is. Harris will be even WORSE for the people of our Nation than Joe Biden. Harris has been the Enabler in Chief for Crooked Joe this entire time. They own each other’s records, and there is no distance between the two. Harris must defend the failed Biden Administration AND her liberal, weak-on-crime record in CA.

Joe Biden cannot take himself out of a campaign for President because he is too mentally incompetent and still remain in the White House. Biden is a national security threat in great cognitive decline and a clear and present danger to every man, woman, and child in our country. The question then to Kamala Harris is simple: knowing that Joe Biden withdrew from the campaign because of his rapidly deteriorating condition, does Harris believe the people of America are safe and secure with Joe Biden in the White House for six more months?

We are going to win this election on November 5th and save our Country. And then, only then, after we win, can we Make America Great Again!"

RNC STATEMENT ON JOE BIDEN AND THE DEMOCRAT PARTY'S DECLINE AND DISARRAY

WASHINGTON – Today, following the news that Joe Biden is not seeking re-election, Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Whatley and Co-Chairman Lara Trump released the following statement:

“President Trump will win this election because he is the only person who will rebuild our southern border, restore our economy and secure our standing in the world.

"Every single failure we’ve seen from Joe Biden – the Afghanistan withdrawal, a border crisis, crushing inflation, and America weakened abroad – has been delivered hand-in-hand with Kamala Harris. Not only would Harris be a disaster in the White House, but she also helped Biden cover up his declining health while in office, which destroys her credibility.

"As Democrats fall apart, President Trump is uniting the American people behind his winning agenda.”

Sunday Note

Good evening,

According to Biden's letter announcing he is dropping out of the presidential race (we haven't actually seen or heard from Biden himself), he is not stepping down as President.

The obituary-style stories on Biden's announcement should send chills down every American. We are a country without a Commander-in-Chief. We have a White House full of liars and snakes.

The threats from Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea are real. Global transportation came to a screeching halt just days ago. Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt after being declined additional protection.

Now, Kamala Harris is the anointed candidate while claiming Joe Biden is coherent enough lead for another 6 months.

The Democrats are so obsessed with power, they are putting American lives, our economy, and global security at risk as they continue the biggest cover-up in world history.

They are sick and should all be voted out.

Radical California
Kamala Harris encouraged people to contribute to a bail fund to free criminals. One of those freed ended up being charged with murder.

Kamala Harris was a weak-on-crime prosecutor. She granted probation to a man that went on to murder.

Kamala Harris supported the Defund The Police movement and said we need to "reimagine" public safety. She even applauded the Los Angeles Mayor for slashing police funding by $150 million.

Kamala Harris backed abolishing ICE and said we need to think about "starting from scratch."

Kamala Harris owns all of Joe Biden's failures:

MAGA Inc's latest ad highlights how Kamala Harris covered up Joe Biden's cognitive decline and America paid the price.

Harris is a co-conspirator in Joe Biden's failed agenda that has led to record high prices, a border invasion, and global instability. The White House will regret calling it the Biden-Harris administration. It was a joint effort to destroy America.

Hundreds of elected officials from across the political spectrum followed President Biden’s lead and announced their full-throated support for Vice President Harris as the Democratic nominee for president to defeat Donald Trump in November.

As Vice President Harris said, she “will do everything in [her] power to unite the Democratic Party—and unite our nation—to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda.”

See just some of the endorsements from Democratic elected officials from Governors to Senators to House members so far today:

Kamala Harris is a patriot worthy of our support and she will continue the work of generations of Americans who came before us to perfect our union, protect our democracy, and advance real freedom. She has served the country honorably as Vice President and she is ready to be President.

The best path forward for the Democratic Party is to quickly unite behind Vice President Harris and refocus on winning the presidency. She is prepared to be Commander-in-Chief and is the best person to meet this moment. I’m proud to endorse her candidacy for President.

Senator Mark Kelly: I couldn’t be more confident that Vice President @KamalaHarris is the right person to defeat Donald Trump and lead our country into the future. She has my support for the nomination, and Gabby and I will do everything we can to elect her President of the United States. 🇺🇸

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse: President @JoeBiden’s legacy will be his grace, effectiveness, and patriotism. Let’s win this for Joe. I look forward to doing everything in my power to elect  @KamalaHarris as the first woman president of the United States, and defeating that dangerous menace Donald Trump.

Congressman Gabe Amo: I will always be proud to have worked in @POTUS Joe Biden’s White House. I look forward to making sure that Vice President  @KamalaHarris is elected our next President, but today, let’s celebrate all the work that we’ve done — and the fierce urgency to continue that work.

Congressman Jake Auchincloss: “We are going to put this forward to the American people and say, 70% of you said you wanted a change at the top of both tickets — Democrats have responded by passing the torch, Republicans responded with a convention that was a mosh pit on top of a human hand grenade.”

Congresswoman Becca Balint: Vice President Kamala Harris has been an exceptional partner in the battle for dignity for working families, for reproductive freedoms and fighting corporate greed. Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski: Joe Biden has been the most productive and consequential president of my lifetime. His leadership has allowed us to deliver historic investments to communities in Central and Southern Illinois that will benefit working people for generations to come. I thank him for his lifetime of public service and for putting our country first as he passes the baton to Vice President Harris. It’s time that we come together and defeat Donald Trump in November.

Congresswoman Cori Bush: In 2020, voters turned out to deliver Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to the White House. The people’s vote was a vote not only for President Biden, but a vote for Vice President Kamala Harris and her ability to defeat MAGA extremism across the country. When we say trust Black women, we mean it. Black women are the backbone of the Democratic Party and it is past time for us to lead our country forward. Congressman Joaquin Castro: I'm grateful to the President for his decades of service to our country and I look forward to working to elect Kamala Harris as our next president.

Congresswoman Judy Chu: @VP Harris fights for us all. She leads the fight to restore our reproductive freedoms. She stood up for us to fight anti-Asian hate. When a gunman killed 11 people in my hometown of Monterey Park, she was there to support us. I’m proud to endorse @KamalaHarris for President!

Congresswoman Yvette Clarke: Vice President Harris holds the intellect, acumen, and energy to defeat Donald Trump and overcome the scourge of Trumpism this November. She has Yvette’s full endorsement and her full faith.

Congressman Jim Clyburn: One of President Biden’s first decisions as the nominee was to select a running that he believed possessed the values and vision necessary to continue this country’s pursuit towards a ‘more perfect Union.’ I echo the good judgment he demonstrated in selecting Vice President Harris to lead this nation alongside him, and I am proud to follow his lead in support of her candidacy to succeed him as the Democratic Party’s 2024 nominee for President.

Congressman Steve Cohen: Kamala Harris has the prosecutorial chops to make mincemeat of the mendacious malefactor Trump !

As Vice President, @KamalaHarris has been crossing the country and visiting states like ours to defend the right for women to make their own health care decisions. I look forward to fighting with her to defend those rights as she works to earn the nomination.

Congressman Robert Garcia: It’s been an honor to support @JoeBiden & @KamalaHarris from day one. Now we must unite around our Vice-President and defeat Donald Trump. I’m all in, are you? Let’s go!

Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia: I’m proud to give my full support to Vice President @KamalaHarris, for President of the United States.

A Harris Presidency will protect women’s reproductive rights, protect Medicare, and continue to cut prescription drug costs and expand healthcare access for all – and a Harris Presidency will keep our nation safer and more secure from global threats. As great as the accomplishments of the past three and half years have been, Kamala Harris will take those successes forward into the next four years.

A district attorney, attorney general, senator and Vice President, she has the right experience to continue the progress made by the Biden-Harris Administration. Vice President Harris has dedicated her life to fighting for working people and defending the rights and freedoms of all Americans. She has been relentless in the fight to make Roe the law of the land, to protect social security, grow our economy and maintain American leadership on the world stage. Her record and character, and the contrast with Donald Trump, could not be more clear. She is the right nominee to Jasmine Crockett (TX-30) unite our party and the country behind a vision for the future. The delegates to the Democratic National Convention are free to select the nominee of their choosing, and I will respect and support the nominee chosen by the delegates, but I hope the delegate choose Kamala Harris to be our nominee and our next President.”

Congresswoman Kathy Manning: Over the past four years, I have witnessed Kamala Harris play a pivotal role in helping President Biden pass historic legislation that has benefited hardworking Americans. As a former prosecutor who went after sexual predators, tax evaders, and con men, she has the experience necessary to go after Donald Trump. Vice President Harris, the first African American and Asian American woman in her role, embodies our nation’s diversity and resilience. Vice President Harris has been a strong advocate for women’s reproductive rights. Under President Biden and Vice President Harris, we have seen America forage ahead with the strongest economy in the Western world, historically low unemployment, and strong job creation. They’ve worked hard to address affordability issues with student loan relief, Medicare negotiating drug prices, and capping insulin at $15 per month for seniors, while also passing the largest climate migration effect in world history and investing infrastructure. I am excited to endorse her campaign for President – she has the judgment, experience, leadership, and tenacity to take on and defeat Donald Trump. I worked with her when she was our Attorney General, Senator, and Vice President, and I can’t wait to work with her as President. And am eager for America to know her as I do: tough, real, and whip smart. Americans have a choice: We can continue the progress made under President Joe Biden and keep working for working families. Or, we can turn over the greatest country in the world to a felon and rapist. One who violently sent his supporters to storm the last office from which he was fired. This isn’t a hard choice. And neither is backing Kamala Harris for President.

Congressman Emilia Sykes: “I look forward to working with Democrats to unity around Vice President Kamala Harris as our Presidential nominee.”

Statement from Vice President Kamala Harris on Becoming the Presumptive Democratic Nominee for President

“When I announced my campaign for President, I said I intended to go out and earn this nomination. Tonight, I am proud to have secured the broad support needed to become our party’s nominee, and as a daughter of California, I am proud that my home state’s delegation helped put our campaign over the top. I look forward to formally accepting the nomination soon.

“I am grateful to President Biden and everyone in the Democratic Party who has already put their faith in me, and I look forward to taking our case directly to the American people.

“This election will present a clear choice between two different visions. Donald Trump wants to take our country back to a time before many of us had full freedoms and equal rights. I believe in a future that strengthens our democracy, protects reproductive freedom and ensures every person has the opportunity to not just get by, but to get ahead.

“Over the next few months, I will be traveling across the country talking to Americans about everything that is on the line. I fully intend to unite our party, unite our nation, and defeat Donald Trump in November.”

Donald J. Trump for President 2024

DATE:            July 22, 2024

RE:                 State of Play Day 1

After being thoroughly decimated by President Trump three weeks ago at the debate in Atlanta, Joe Biden was fired. He was fired by Donald Trump. He has now been turned out to pasture, yet the Biden record of Weakness and Failure still stands.

Just as Donald Trump fired Joe Biden, he will demonstrate to the world he can fire Dangerously liberal Kamala as well.

It’s a once-in-a lifetime opportunity to defeat not just one Democrat nominee for president, but two — in the same year!

And where does the race stand? In every public poll conducted, battleground and national, Donald Trump leads Kamala Harris by the same — if not more, than Joe Biden.

The latest HarrisX/Forbes poll shows President Trump with a 9 point lead over Kamala.

Democrat polling released just today, has President Trump over 50 and leading by 6 in Pennsylvania, over 50 and leading by 8 in Arizona, up 2 in Michigan and up 1 in Wisconsin.

Lets also not forget, the Biden campaign has spent in excess of $150 million, money they can’t get back.

Same year — same people — same record of failure — same result.

The same people who had the following plans:
  •  Weaponize the Judicial System to falsely accuse, indict and convict on bogus charges
  • Utilize the United States Justice Department as a political tool to indict the former President on 40 manufactured charges relating to the Presidential records — a case that has since been thrown out of court
  • Utilize the FBI to stage a raid on the President’s home
  • Use the Courts as a vehicle to go after the President’s lifetime of assets
  • State Courts led by Democrats in Washington put together attempts to deny ballot access in key states — an attempt defeated and ultimately thrown out by the United States Supreme Court
And if that wasn’t bad enough, President Trump survived an assassination attempt.

The liberal elite and deep state — sensing the American public’s disgust with their lawfare, and now in a desperate Hail Mary — have swapped out an incumbent President for the incumbent Vice President in a ploy to try and shake up the race.

The problem for the left and media elite? Kamala Harris is as bad, if not worse, than Joe Biden.

Border Czar Kamala Harris owns the border invasion, which has resulted in nearly 100 terrorists roaming the United States, hundreds of thousands of American dead due to Fentanyl, a child trafficking epidemic resulting in killings and kidnappings, a spread of a new type of crime, a crime directly linked to Harris’ own beliefs, and backed by her actions, released migrants who prey and kill innocent Americans.

How do you deal with such heinous beliefs?

Aggressively, in detail, and without quarter.

The left and deep state have pulled out all the stops in their maniacal attempts to retain power.

This is a new fight for American Independence:
  • Independence from the oppressive weight of the Harris inflation tax
  • Independence from the War against American Energy and edicts for all electric cars
  • Independence that will once again make the United States respected on a world stage
  • Independence from an oppressive government hellbent on taking away parental rights
  • Independence from a border invasion that risks Social Security, public safety and the rule of law
The restoration of American Independence…starts today.
This “War on Democracy” — will be stopped by the man who took a bullet for Democracy.

Team Harris Pulls in Historic $100 Million Haul

Team Harris raised more than $100 million between Sunday afternoon and Monday evening, now boasting more than 1.1 million unique donors since Sunday, with 62% of them being first-time donors. This haul reflects money raised across the campaign, Democratic National Committee, and joint fundraising committees.

On top of that, Team Harris raised $81 million in its first 24 hours, adding to the existing near quarter-of-a-billion dollar war chest already amassed this election cycle. With this historic haul, Harris for President saw the highest 24-hour raise of any candidate in history with over 888,000 grassroots donors making donations.

Vice President Harris trip to Milwaukee comes on the heels of historic momentum toward her election bid from grassroots donors and supporters, exactly the kind of grassroots energy and enthusiasm that wins elections.

There is a groundswell behind Kamala Harris, and convicted felon Donald Trump knows his divisive, unpopular agenda can’t stand up to the vice president’s record and vision for the American people.

CONFIDENTIAL MEMORANDUM

TO: TEAM TRUMP
FROM: TONY FABRIZIO
RE: THE HARRIS HONEYMOON
DATE: JULY 23, 2024

Many of you have heard me refer to the upcoming “Harris Honeymoon” that I expect to see in the public polling over the next couple of weeks. As I’ve explained, the honeymoon will be a manifestation of the wall-to-wall coverage Harris receives from the MSM. The coverage will be largely positive and will certainly energize Democrats and some other parts of their coalition at least in the short term.

That means we will start to see public polling – particularly national public polls – where Harris is gaining on or even leading President Trump. Obviously, the situation we find ourselves in today is totally uncharted territory and has no modern historical parallel. But there are some things that haven’t changed. Due to the events of the past two weeks including our highly successful Convention, President Trump has seen a bump in his numbers in a number of recent public polls. Not surprising given that most candidates historically receive some type of bump.

Given what has happened over the past couple of days and her impending VP choice, there is no question that Harris will get her bump earlier than the Democrat’s Convention. And that bump is likely to start showing itself over the next few days and will last a while until the race settles back down.

The Democrats and the MSM will try and tout these polls as proof that the race has changed. But the fundamentals of the race stay the same. The Democrats deposing one Nominee for another does NOT change voters discontent over the economy, inflation, crime, the open border, housing costs not to mention concern over two foreign wars. Before long, Harris’ “honeymoon” will end and voters will refocus on her role as Biden’s partner and co-pilot. As importantly, voters will also learn about Harris’ dangerously liberal record before becoming Biden’s partner in creating historic inflation (she cast the deciding vote on the IRA), flood of illegal immigrants at our southern border (she is Biden’s Border Czar), and migrant crime that is threatening our families and communities (she set illegals free who went on to commit violent crime as DA).

So, while the public polls may change in the short run and she may consolidate a bit more of the Democrat base, Harris can’t change who she is or what she’ done. Stay tuned…

Harris for President

SUBJECT: The Path to Victory for Kamala Harris

This week, Vice President Kamala Harris filed her candidacy for president of the United States. Following a groundswell of support from across the country, she is now the presumptive Democratic nominee – and she’s in a strong position to win.

Yesterday, the Vice President campaigned in Milwaukee, marking her fifth visit to Wisconsin so far this year. In front of a crowd of over 3,500 – the campaign’s largest event yet – Vice President Harris laid out the choice in this election between two very different visions. She is fighting for a future that strengthens our democracy, protects reproductive freedom and ensures every person has the opportunity to not just get by, but to get ahead. Donald Trump is a convicted criminal running to enact his extreme and dangerous Project 2025 agenda that would roll back Americans’ rights and freedoms, hurt the middle class, and threaten our democracy.

In the days and weeks to come, she’ll take that message across the battlegrounds, capitalizing on the historic infrastructure the campaign has spent the last year building to reach voters where they are to ensure they understand the choice in this election.

With a popular message, a strong record on the issues that matter most to swing voters, multiple pathways to 270 electoral voters, and unprecedented enthusiasm on her side, the Vice President is in a strong position to take on Donald Trump and win in 104 days.

Building a winning coalition of voters and multiple pathways to 270

Vice President Harris enters the presidential race with clear advantages among voters critical to victory.

First, Vice President Harris has well-documented support from the Biden-Harris coalition of voters that delivered victory in 2020. She has significant advantages with key parts of the Democratic base: Black voters, Latino voters, AANHPI voters, women, and young voters.

  •     Black voters: The Vice President has a +44 net approval rating and runs 54 points ahead of Trump. 61% of Black voters think that Vice President Harris cares about the needs and problems of people like them, as compared to just 20% of Black voters who think the same of Trump.
  •     Latino voters: Harris is more popular than Trump among undecided, independent, and third-party Latinos. Early polling from Nevada shows that the Vice President makes up ground with Latino voters and does “exceedingly well” with Latino voters who are skeptical of both Biden and Trump.
  •     AANHPI voters: Vice President Harris has a positive approval rating among AANHPI voters, 30 points higher than Trump’s net approval rating.
  •     Women voters: The Vice President’s net favorability is 21 points better than Trump’s among women.
  •     Young voters: Vice President Harris leads Donald Trump by 25 points with young voters, and a preliminary survey of college students conducted by Flytedesk found that intent-to-vote increased to its highest rate of the cycle after President Biden’s endorsement of Vice President Harris, with 83% of students indicating that they would vote in November.
Second, the Vice President is also well-positioned to expand support from 2020, drawing the support of voters who have moved towards Democrats since the 2020 election. In many cases, these voters did not vote for the Biden-Harris ticket in 2020, but came out in support of Democrats in 2022 as Donald Trump’s Republican Party grew more and more extreme. These voters supported Democrats in battleground states in 2022, and they will be critical to hold onto in 2024. Notably, the Vice President already holds significant favorability advantages among the key demographic groups that have moved toward Democrats since 2020: Her net favorability is 19 points higher than Trump’s among white, college-educated voters, and 18 points higher than Trump’s among voters over 65.

The Vice President has been at the forefront on the very issues that are most important to these voters – restoring women’s reproductive rights, upholding the rule of law following January 6, Donald Trump’s criminal convictions, and the Supreme Court’s immunity decision.

Voters identified reproductive rights as a top issue influencing their vote in the 2022 midterm elections: In CNN’s 2022 pre-election poll, nearly three quarters of voters called abortion very important to their vote, and a majority of voters called it extremely important. This trend continues in 2024, where 76% of voters have identified abortion as an important issue in this election, and nearly half of voters ranked it as very important. 57% of young people ages 18-29 identify abortion as a “major” factor in their vote, as do 55% of women.

Vice President Harris has been a champion for reproductive freedom even before the Dobbs decision. As a Senator, she grilled now-Justice Kavanaugh and fought for legislation to improve women’s health. As Vice President, she is leading the Biden-Harris Administration’s response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade, including implementing three executive orders on reproductive health care access, and traveling the country to galvanize leaders in the fight for reproductive freedom. She has spoken to more than 15,000 students about the fight for our fundamental rights, including our reproductive freedom. And on her “Fight for Our Freedoms” tour, she became the first Vice President in history to visit a reproductive health care clinic. A KFF survey found that eight in ten (82%) Democratic and Democratic-leaning women voters say they trust Vice President Harris to speak about abortion policy, including large majorities of White Democratic women voters (85%), Black Democratic women voters (76%), and Hispanic Democratic women voters (72%).

These expansion voters are also deeply troubled by Donald Trump’s criminal convictions. 32% of independents said that the conviction made them less likely to support Trump, and 21% said this would be an important factor in their vote. As a former prosecutor who has never shied away from taking on those who harm the American people, Vice President Harris is uniquely positioned to hold him accountable over the course of the campaign.

While the Vice President is poised to build on the 2020 Biden-Harris coalition, Trump, on the other hand, has not expanded his support. This has become even more clear in the last month, where he largely failed to win over new voters following the debate and the RNC convention. Now, even Trump’s closest allies have started to indicate that he made a mistake by choosing JD Vance, his most extreme option, as running mate. Trump’s, and now Vance’s, far-right positions on women’s reproductive rights and democracy put these key voters even further out of reach.

Third, in a highly polarized electoral environment, this shift in the race opens up additional persuadable voters who our campaign can work to win the support of. This race is more fluid now – the Vice President is well-known but less well-known than both Trump and President Biden, particularly among Dem-leaning constituencies.

This expanded universe of winnable voters is highly accessible to Vice President Harris: We have a clear advantage on issues, they have been supportive of Democrats in the past, and many are supportive of Democrats down-ballot. It is the job of the Harris campaign to win these voters, but the pathway to do so is clear.

About 7% of voters remain undecided in this race, and these voters are disproportionately Black, Latino, and under 30. They are more likely to have supported the Biden-Harris ticket in 2020, and are two times more likely to be Democrats than Republicans. These voters also disproportionately support Democratic candidates down-ballot and we have a clear issue and character advantage.

While we know that we cannot take these voters for granted, we have a significant opportunity to consolidate their support once they hear from our campaign.

Finally, the map. Winning the presidential election still requires winning 270 electoral votes, and that means our pathways to victory runs through the states. Vice President Harris enters a tight race, but it is clear that she can bring together a coalition of voters to keep a wide set of states in play. We continue to focus on the Blue Wall states of Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania — and the Sun Belt states of North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona and Nevada, where the Vice President’s advantages with young voters, Black voters, and Latino voters will be important to our multiple pathways to 270 electoral votes.

We intend to play offense in each of these states, and have the resources and campaign infrastructure to do so.

Grassroots enthusiasm

Where Vice President Harris goes, grassroots enthusiasm follows. This was the case in 2020, when the Biden-Harris campaign had its best 24 hours of grassroots fundraising of the entire race following then Vice President Biden’s selection of Harris as his running mate, and it has certainly been the case over the past 36 hours since receiving the endorsement of President Biden. A few facts and figures here:

  •     In the first 24 hours after receiving President Biden’s endorsement, Team Harris raised over $81 million – the most in a 24 hour period in the history of presidential politics. As of Tuesday evening, Team Harris has raised $126 million since the endorsement.
  •     Over 1.4 million grassroots donors made donations since Sunday afternoon, 64% of whom made their first contribution of the 2024 cycle.
  •     Since Sunday afternoon, Team Harris has added 74,000 new recurring donors, with two-thirds of these recurring donors signing up for weekly donations.
We also know that it takes more than money to win the presidential election — it takes an army of supporters and volunteers to spread our message. In the last two days, we have seen unprecedented volunteer signups.

  •     Since Sunday afternoon, over 100,000 volunteers have signed up to join the campaign.
  •     In Nevada, volunteers literally showed up at field offices on Sunday asking to help and 2,500 Pennsylvanians signed up to volunteer, 4x our previous biggest day.
  •     In Wisconsin, we held our biggest rally ever on Tuesday, with more than 3,500 fired up supporters who organizers will now engage to volunteer with the campaign.
  •     Nearly 2,000 people applied to work on the campaign in the 24 hours after Vice President Harris announced her campaign – more than 3x our previous record.
Campaign infrastructure firing on all cylinders

From day one, the Biden-Harris campaign has not only been prepared to win a close election, it has been designed to win a close election. Vice President Harris will now inherit that robust campaign operation.

Since last fall, we have been building deep relationships in communities across the battlegrounds, creating a blended organizing model designed to register, persuade, mobilize and turn out voters when it matters most. Using both in person events and activities as well as engaging voters online, we are having conversations with voters to cut through media silos and political narratives. At the same time, we made early investments in a staff presence across the battlegrounds that has grown over time, with more than 250 coordinated offices in the states. We are presently at over 1,300 coordinated staff in battlegrounds, will be over 1,500 by the end of the month, and well over 2,000 before the summer is out. They are building an army of tens of thousands of volunteers who will talk to millions of voters. And all of this comes alongside an organizing program that will hit more than 3 million doors across the months of July and August.

We know, both from election results and from research, that when the choice is between Donald Trump’s extremism and the Biden-Harris Administration’s record of delivering for the American people – and when Democrats have an operation capable of persuading and mobilizing voters on the ground – we win.

Bottom line: This campaign will be close, it will be hard fought, but Vice President Harris is in a position of strength – and she’s going to win.

 REMARKS BY PRESIDENT BIDEN

IN STATEMENT TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE

Oval Office

July 24, 2024

 8:01 P.M. EDT

THE PRESIDENT:  My fellow Americans, I’m speaking to you tonight from behind the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office.

In this sacred space, I’m surrounded by portraits of extraordinary American presidents.  Thomas Jefferson, who wrote the immortal words that guide this nation.  George Washington, who showed us presidents are not kings.  Abraham Lincoln, who implored us to reject malice.  Franklin Roosevelt, who inspired us to reject fear.

I revere this office, but I love my country more.

It’s been the honor of my life to serve as your president.  But in the defense of democracy, which is at stake, I think it’s more important than any title.

I draw strength and I find joy in working for the American people.  But this sacred task of perfecting our Union -- it’s not about me.  It’s about you, your families, your futures.  It’s about “We the People.”  We can never forget that, and I never have.

I’ve made it clear that I believe America is at an inflection point, one of those rare moments in history when the decisions we make now will determine our fate of our nation and the world for decades to come.  America is going to have to choose between moving forward or backward, between hope and hate, between unity and division.

We have to decide: Do we still believe in honesty, decency, and respect; freedom, justice, and democracy?

In this moment, we can see those we disagree with not as enemies or -- but as frien- -- as fellow Americans.  Can we do that?  Does character in public life still matter?

I believe I know the answer to these questions, because I know you, the American people.

And I know this: We are a great nation because we are a good people.

When you elected me to this office, I promised to always level with you, to tell you the truth.  And the truth, the sacred cause of this country is larger than any one of us.

And those of us who cheri[sh] that cause -- cherish it so much -- the cause of American democracy itself -- must unite to protect it.

You know, in recent weeks, it’s become clear to me that I needed to unite my party in this critical endeavor.  I believe my record as president, my leadership in the world, my vision for America’s future all merited a second term, but nothing -- nothing -- can come in the way of saving our democracy.  That includes personal ambition.

So, I’ve decided the best way forward is to pass the torch to a new generation.  That’s the best way to unite our nation.

I know there is a time and a place for long years of experience in public life.  But there is also a time and place for new voices, fresh voices -- yes, younger voices.  And that time and place is now.

Over the next six months, I’ll be focused on doing my job as president.  That means I will continue to lower costs for hardworking families, grow our economy.  I’ll keep defending our personal freedoms and our civil rights, from the right to vote to the right to choose.  And I’ll keep calling out hate and extremism and make it clear there is no place -- no place in America for political violence or any violence ever, period.

I’m going to keep -- keep speaking out to protect our kids from gun violence, our planet from the climate crisis.  It is the existential threat.

And I will keep fighting my -- for my Cancer Moonshot so we can end cancer as we know it, because we can do it.

And I’m going to call for Supreme Court reform because this is critical to our democracy -- Supreme Court reform.

You know, I will keep working to ensure America remains strong and secure and the leader of the free world.

I’m the first president in this century to report to the American people that the United States is not at war anywhere in the world.

I will keep rallying a coalition of proud nations to stop Putin from taking over Ukraine and doing more damage.

I will keep NATO stronger, and I’ll make it more powerful and more united than any time in all of our history.  And I’ll keep doing the same for our allies in the Pacific.

You know, when I came to office, the conventional wisdom was that China would inevitably -- would inevitably pass the United -- surpass the United States.  That’s not the case anymore.

And I’m going to keep working to end the war in Gaza, bring home all the hostages, and bring peace and security to the Middle East and end this war.

We’re also working around the clock to bring home Americans being unjustly detained all around the world.

You know, we have come so far since my inauguration.  On that day, I told you as I stood in that winter -- we stood in a winter of peril and a winter of possibilities -- peril and possibilities.

We’re in the grip of the wor- -- we were in the grip of the worst pandemic in a century, the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, the worst attack on our democracy since the Civil War.  But we came together as Americans and we got through it.

We emerged stronger, more prosperous, and more secure.

And today, we have the strongest economy in the world, creating nearly 16 million new jobs -- a record.  Wages are up.  Inflation continues to come down.  The racial wealth gap is the lowest it’s been in 20 years.

We’re literally rebuilding our entire nation -- urban, suburban, rural, and Tribal communities.

Manufacturing has come back to America.  We’re leading the world again in chips and science and innovation.

And we finally beat Big Pharma after all these years to lower the cost of prescription drugs for seniors.  And I’m going to keep fighting to make sure we lower the costs for everyone, not just seniors.

More people have health care today in America than ever before.  And I signed one of the most significant laws helping millions of veterans and their families who were exposed to toxic materials.

You know, the most significant climate law ever -- ever in the history of the world.  The first major gun safety law in 30 years.  And today, violent -- the violent crime rate is at a 50-year low.

We’re also securing our border.  Border crossings are lower today than when the previous administration left office.

And I kept my commitment to appoint the first Black woman to the Supreme Court of the United States of America.  I also kept my commitment to have an administration that looks like America and to be a president for all Americans.  That’s what I’ve done.

I ran for president four years ago because I believed and still do that the soul of America was at stake.  The very nature of who we are was at stake.  And that’s still the case.

America is an idea -- an idea stronger than any army, bigger than any ocean, more powerful than any dictator or tyrant.  It’s the most powerful idea in the history of the world.

That idea is that we hold these truths to be self-evident.  We’re all created equal, endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights: life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness.

We’ve never fully lived up to it -- to this sacred idea, but we’ve never walked away from it either.  And I do not believe the American people will walk away from it now.

In just a few months, the American people will choose the course of America’s future.

I made my choice.  I have made my views known.

I would like to thank our great vice president, Kamala Harris.  She’s experienced.  She’s tough.  She’s capable.  She has been an incredible partner to me and a leader for our country.

Now the choice is up to you, the American people.

When you make that choice, remember the words of Benjamin Franklin, who’s hanging on my wall here in the Oval Office alongside the busts of Dr. King and Rosa Parks and Cesar Chavez.

When Ben Franklin was asked as he emerged from the -- the con- -- the -- the convention going on whether the Founders had given America a monarchy or a republic, Franklin’s response was, “A republic, if you can keep it.”  “A republic, if you can keep it.”  Whether we keep our republic is now in your hands.

My fellow Americans, it’s been the privilege of my life to serve this nation for over 50 years.  Nowhere else on Earth could a kid with a stutter from modest beginnings in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and Claymont, Delaware, one day sit behind the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office as president of the United States.  But here I am.

That’s what’s so special about America.  We are a nation of promise and possibilities, of dreamers and doers, of ordinary Americans doing extraordinary things.

I have given my heart and my soul to our nation, like so many others.  And I have been blessed a million times in return with the love and support of the American people.

I hope you have some idea how grateful I am to all of you.  The great thing about America is here kings and dictators do not rule.  The people do.

History is in your hands.  The power is in your hands.  The idea of America lies in your hands.

We just have to keep faith -- keep the faith and remember who we are.  We are the United States of America, and there is simply nothing -- nothing beyond our capacity when we do it together.  So, let’s act together, preserve our democracy.

God bless you all.  And may God protect our troops.

Thank you.
