Kevin de León Visits Olvera Street in Final Push                                  ...1 of 2 >
June 3 - Trailing in the polls, Councilman Kevin de León visited Olvera Street as part of an intense final push. Asked about the key issues facing the City, de León started with homelessness:
"This is one of the richest cities in the world, but we're left with a profound double mark of shame to have so many folks living on the street or sidewalks or alleyways, in their cars, in our parks.  And I'm not going to give you empty political rhetoric like the other mayoral candidates.  What I am going to tell you is in just one year I have housed more than 85% of unhoused people in northeast Los Angeles, and in less than three months I have built the largest tiny home village in the United States of America.  So what I'm doing in my council district, CD14, is what I want to do for the rest of the City of L.A..  The issue of public safety is so critical.  Every Angeleno deserves to live in safe as well as clean neighborhoods.  And also too we need housing affordability to support so many working families in Los Angeles who quite frankly love the City but don't know if they can even afford to live in the City that they work in and love."
