Los Angeles Region’s Premier Environmental Political Action Committee Will Moderate Mayoral Debate Along with ABC7’s Josh Haskell

LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CA — In honor of Earth Month, Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters, the leading pro-environment organization in the Los Angeles region, will be hosting a mayoral debate featuring leading mayoral candidates. The debate will address our climate crisis and the candidates’ plans to take action on critical environmental issues facing the residents of the City of Los Angeles. Moderated by LALCV board members and ABC7 reporter Josh Haskell, the debate highlights the dearth of focus on environmental issues thus far in the Los Angeles mayoral race.

WHO: LALCV board members (moderators)
ABC 7 Reporter Josh Haskell (moderators)
Congressmember Karen Bass
L.A. City Attorney Mike Feuer
L.A. City Councilmember Kevin de León
Businessperson Mel Wilson

WHEN: Thursday, April 21 at 5 p.m.

WHERE: Livestreamed on LALCV’s  Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube

Please RSVP here.

DEBATE ELIGIBILITY:

LALCV has been involved in local elections for more than four decades, and we've sponsored many debates in races across L.A. County. In our experience, sometimes so many candidates file for an office that including all of them in a single, one-hour debate would prevent the informative discussion we aim to facilitate. This is one of those races. We have invited four candidates based on our assessment of each candidate's political viability and positions on the issues.

About this event

NOTE: The SFV Faith and Services Mayoral Forum is being live-streamed. You can watch here: https://tbhla.livecontrol.tv/a4cfa388

These are the greatest moral and justice dilemmas of our time and in our beloved city of LA: widespread homelessness and the lack of affordable housing.

How do mayoral candidates plan to lead our LA, including the San Fernando Valley, into a thriving, just future?

Under the steadfast leadership of Rabbi Sarah Hronsky, Temple Beth Hillel--Valley Village, non-profit and faith leaders of the San Fernando Valley have organized a mayoral candidate forum so that we can hear humane, person-focused ideas from mayoral candidates on these issues, and to draw attention to the unique challenges and strengths of the San Fernando Valley areas of LA.

The San Fernando Valley Faith & Services Mayoral Dialogue on Homelessness will take place Monday, March 21, at 7pm. (Doors open at 6:30pm; tabling by local organizations).

This is a free, hybrid event. But reservations are required.

The in-person event will take place at Temple Beth Hillel in Valley Village. Proof of vaccination required for in-person attendance. For virtual viewing, the live-stream link will be provided after registration.
Candidates committed to date: Rep. Karen Bass, Councilmember Joe Buscaino, Councilmember Kevin DeLeon, and City Attorney Mike Feuer.

For the first hour of the SFV Faith and Services Mayoral Dialogue on Homelessness moderator, LA Times reporter Ben Oreskes will lead candidates in a comprehensive discussion of strategies to end homelessness, create housing, and unpack how the City of LA can lead in creating solutions. For the last half-hour, SFV community leaders will ask questions directly of the candidates.

The goal is to move candidates beyond their stump speeches and talking points to wrestle with the complexity of the homelessness issue and offer meaningful solutions.

REGISTRATION REQUIRED. RESERVE YOUR FREE TICKETS TODAY!
