Democrats Hold "New Mexico For All" Virtual Office Opening

More than 200 volunteers joined the call to learn about virtual organizing opportunities in 2020

The Democratic Party of New Mexico (DPNM) today hosted a virtual event officially opening our virtual “offices.” Democratic candidates and officials joined the call to show their enthusiasm for the “New Mexico for All” field plan, which will allow Democrats to engage volunteers and turn out voters in 2020.

Viewers heard from New Mexico’s leading Democrats, including Representative Ben Ray Luján, Representative Deb Haaland, Representative Xochitl Torres Small, and Teresa Leger Fernandez. Participants were then placed in breakout groups, where they were able to speak directly with “New Mexico for All” Organizers and New Mexico House candidates within their Congressional District. Candidates speaking included Billie Helean, candidate for House District 57, Representative Willie Madrid from House District 53 and Roger Montoya, Candidate for House District 40.

During breakout sessions, New Mexico for All Organizers helped volunteers become part of our virtual “offices” by downloading the Reach app and joining a local Facebook organizing group. During the event, dozens of people signed up to organize through these virtual platforms, with downloads still growing.

“‘We were so thrilled to see hundreds of Democrats show up to find out how they can get involved this year,” said DPNM Chair Marg Elliston. “Democrats are rising to the challenge of campaigning during a pandemic by finding innovative ways to spread our message and connect with voters. We’re proud to see so much enthusiasm for these new strategies, and we’re looking forward to continuing that momentum through November so that we can build a New Mexico for all!”
