TRUMP CAMPAIGN NEWSPAPER AD HIGHLIGHTS DEMOCRATS' PLANS TO KILL OHIO'S ECONOMY

President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign has taken out a full-page, full-color, local newspaper advertisement ahead of the Democrats' debate in Ohio tonight. The campaign is running an ad in the Columbus Dispatch contrasting Democrats’ disastrous plans for America with President Trump’s clear record of accomplishments.

"Democrats will be on stage promoting their disastrous brand of big government socialism, which will kill jobs and the entire Ohio economy," said Tim Murtaugh, Trump campaign communications director. "President Trump’s clear record of growing the economy and creating more than six million jobs stands in clear contrast to the Democrats’ calamitous ideas. Team Trump is here to remind Ohioans and all Americans what's at stake in 2020."

The newspaper ad is running  on the morning of the fourth wave of Democrat debates and showcases Democrat calls for the elimination of private health insurance, abolishment of the fossil fuel industry, unnecessary regulations that will slow job creation, and higher taxes.

The Trump campaign has also already announced it will employ aerial advertising ahead of tonight's debate across the city of Westerville, Ohio from 12:00-3:00pm and 3:45-6:45pm.

Campaign Memo: Tom Steyer's First Debate

TO: Interested Parties
FROM: Heather Hargreaves, Campaign Manager, Tom Steyer 2020
RE: Tom’s First Debate
DATE: October 14, 2019

Tuesday night will be Tom’s first time on the debate stage, and he is thrilled to share his vision for our country’s future. Since Tom qualified, we’ve gotten a lot of questions about what to expect when Tom takes the stage with 11 other candidates. I wanted you to hear directly from me.

Tomorrow night is not about having a moment. It’s about building a movement. Tom’s first goal is to introduce himself to a national audience and let them know why he is running for President. He’s running to end the corporate takeover of our government and return power back to the American people. Tom knows if we get that right, we can finally tackle the climate crisis and pass our progressive agenda.

Our strategy is based on the long-term, not one moment. We look at Tuesday’s debate as an opportunity for Tom to introduce himself to a national audience, not one to “break through” or create a viral moment. Our resources and strategy allow Tom to play the long game, and to be competitive in the early states and on Super Tuesday as the Democratic field continues to narrow. Our focus on introducing Tom also means we are not looking to launch attacks or engage directly with other candidates. It’s very clear from the past debates that strategy has backfired for every candidate who has tried it, and it reinforces our plan to use Tuesday’s debate as a platform for introducing Tom and explaining why he is running.

Tom will highlight what makes him different from other candidates on stage. As an outsider, Tom has a 10-year track record of taking on big corporations with grassroots coalitions and winning. He’s taken on the oil companies, the drug companies, and big tobacco. He’s tackled climate change, mobilized over a million young voters, and led a national movement to impeach the Donald Trump. Tom is the only candidate who will declare climate change a national emergency on day one, and use the emergency powers of the presidency to address it.  He’s proposed significant structural reforms, including term limits and a national referendum. Tom also built a successful international business, which makes him the Democrat best prepared expose Donald Trump as a fraud and failure on the economy.

Tom has earned his way onto the debate stage. Tom’s focus on the early states has paid off. Just look at the growth we’ve seen over the last two CBS Battleground trackers:

New Hampshire:
4% (+3)
Considering: 17% (+6)

Iowa:
3% (+1)
Considering: 17% (+5)

South Carolina:
2% (+1)
Considering: 16% (+7)

In the latest poll out of Nevada, Tom is at 4%.

And in last week’s Morning Consult Poll, Tom is in 4th place across all 4 early states at 8%.

These critical early states are responding to Tom because, for over ten years, he’s been fighting on the outside for the American people and beating big corporations. He’s beaten the energy companies, the drug companies, and the utilities to win major victories for millions of people.  The big question for voters is whether they believe change is more likely to come from inside the Washington establishment, or from someone who has a decade-long track record of making change from the outside.

Tom’s not a Washington politician. He’ll be up against 11 other candidates who’ve done this 2-3 times this year and throughout their whole careers. But he will be the only candidate on that stage proposing big structural reforms like term limits and national referendums while making it easier to vote and ending corporate money in politics.  As president, he’ll declare climate change an emergency on day one and use those powers to finally address the climate crisis.

We’re excited for Tom to introduce himself to America tomorrow night. We hope you’ll be watching with us.

FFRF’s ‘unabashed atheist’ Ron Reagan ad to run during CNN Dem debate Tuesday

After being censored by the national ABC network when it sought to advertise during the Sept. 12 Democratic debate, the Freedom From Religion Foundation has secured airtime for its iconic Ron Reagan commercial during the Tuesday Democratic primary debate on CNN.

The 30-second spot (the first freethinking ad believed to have ever run during a presidential primary debate) will be shown twice during the Oct. 15 debate itself, and also during the primary debate pre-show and post-show. The ad will also air Wednesday on “The Lead with Jake Tapper” (4-5 p.m. Eastern), “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer” (5-7 p.m.) and “Anderson Cooper 360” (8-9 p.m.).

Reagan, the progressive son of President Ronald Reagan and Nancy Reagan, says during the ad:

Hi, I'm Ron Reagan, an unabashed atheist, and I'm alarmed by the intrusion of religion into our secular government. That's why I'm asking you to support the Freedom From Religion Foundation, the nation's largest and most effective association of atheists and agnostics, working to keep state and church separate, just like our Founding Fathers intended. Please support the Freedom From Religion Foundation. Ron Reagan, lifelong atheist, not afraid of burning in hell.

CBS, NBC, ABC and Discovery Science networks have refused the ad since 2014, but it has previously run periodically on CNN, Comedy Central and Rachel Maddow’s show on MSNBC.

FFRF Co-President Annie Laurie Gaylor says the American public has no idea how much censorship nonbelievers encounter in seeking to disseminate their views — even when offering to pay to air those views.

“CNN has the right idea: to let there be open debate,” Gaylor adds. Studies show that secular voters could comprise about a quarter of the electorate and care deeply about hot-button issues, including the direction of the judiciary and protecting abortion and LGBTQ rights.

FFRF thanks FFRF members who have donated to FFRF’s Advertising Fund for making possible this major campaign.
