STATEMENT FROM CAMPAIGN MANAGER KEVIN SHEEKEY ON MIKE BLOOMBERG QUALIFYING FOR THE NEVADA DEBATE

A national poll released today by NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist shows Democratic presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg polling nationally at 19%, meeting the Democratic Party’s latest qualification criteria to join the debate this Wednesday, February 19 in Nevada.

Mike Bloomberg 2020 Campaign Manager Kevin Sheekey released the following statement:

“Our campaign is seeing a groundswell of support across the country, and qualifying for the February 19 debate is the latest sign that Mike’s plan and ability to defeat Donald Trump is resonating with more and more Americans.

“Mike is looking forward to joining the other Democratic candidates on stage and making the case for why he's the best candidate to defeat Donald Trump and unite the country. The opportunity to discuss his workable and achievable plans for the challenges facing this country is an important part of the campaign process.

“Since Mike launched his campaign 13 weeks ago, he's met with voters in 25 states and 62 cities. Our crowds continue to grow, and our coalition continues to broaden. There’s a desire in every corner of this country for a proven leader, for someone who will stand up to bullies and special interests and get things done. That person is Mike Bloomberg, and we look forward to more Americans seeing that on Wednesday night."

Steyer Calls on Perez to Expand Polling Window Ahead of Nevada Debate

(Chester, SC, February 10, 2020) –– Today, Democratic presidential candidate Tom Steyer sent a letter to Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman Tom Perez, calling on the DNC to expand the polling window for the Nevada debate to make it consistent with the last several polling windows and allow more candidates to qualify for the debate which is scheduled to take place on February 19 in Las Vegas. Below is the text of the full letter.

Tom,

When my campaign received the debate criteria for the next DNC debate in Nevada on January 31st, I was extremely disappointed to see that the Committee has narrowed the polling window significantly. The previous two polling windows have been 56-58 days and this recent period window has been cut to 35 days.

In that time period, there hasn’t been a single qualifying poll conducted in Nevada or South Carolina. Additionally, a week before the DNC started the window, my campaign met the criteria for the Nevada debate in two Fox News polls that showed my campaign at 15% in South Carolina and 12% in Nevada.

I urge you to expand the window or make sure that there is significant polling in those states prior to the next debate. The voters in Nevada and South Carolina deserve to have their voices heard in this process and to narrow the debate qualifiers without their involvement undercuts the importance of the early states in this election.

Thank you for your attention to this issue.

-Tom

Steyer Campaign Statement on DNC Nevada Debate

(San Francisco, CA, February 18, 2020) –– Today, Tom Steyer 2020 Campaign Manager Heather Hargreaves released the following statement on the DNC’s February 19 Nevada debate:

“If it were up to the people of Nevada and South Carolina, Tom Steyer would be on the debate stage tomorrow night. Tom Perez and the DNC have again let down Democrats in these two crucial states by arbitrarily shortening the polling window and refusing to take adequate steps to ensure the voices of Nevadans and South Carolinians are heard.

“There has been a staggering dearth of qualifying polling in Nevada or South Carolina — the first two diverse states to vote in this election — during the DNC’s current window. This is unconscionable in an election where major shifts happen in short periods of time.

“It is beyond the shadow of a doubt that Tom would be on the debate stage had the DNC ensured more polling in Nevada and South Carolina during their chosen window. Tom has met or exceeded the 10% threshold in every Nevada and South Carolina public poll during the debate window.  Tom’s message is resonating in Nevada, where a new poll conducted by Beacon Research for our campaign shows Tom statistically tied with Vice President Biden for 2nd place and trailing Senator Sanders by only 6 points. Regardless of the turnout model, Tom earns well over the 12% support threshold put forth by the DNC to make the Nevada debate. Critically, the numbers show Tom making strong inroads with African Americans and Latinos, two voting blocks critical to picking up delegates in Nevada, South Carolina, and the delegate-rich Super Tuesday states.

“The DNC is effectively shutting out contenders for the nomination who have demonstrated they can build the diverse coalition of voters that will be necessary to beat Donald Trump in November. It is shameful that Perez and the DNC will bend over backward to make space for a candidate who has chosen to ignore voters in the first four races while ignoring the voices of the first two truly diverse states in this election, Nevada and South Carolina.

“Regardless of whether the DNC decides to do the right thing and change its polling requirements or commission more polling, Tom will continue to connect with voters on his message of being the candidate who can unite a diverse coalition and beat Trump on the economy.”

One week before the DNC started its polling window for qualification to the Nevada debate, Tom Steyer’s campaign met the polling criteria in two Fox News polls that showed his campaign at 15% in South Carolina and 12% in Nevada. More recent polls conducted by The Post and Courier and East Carolina University have confirmed Steyer’s momentum, showing him as a leading candidate with 18% and 19% support respectively. Significantly, the Post and Courier poll showed Steyer earning 24% support amongst black voters, only six points behind first-placed Joe Biden.

Trump campaign runs Las Vegas newspaper ad ahead of Democrat Debate

President Donald J. Trump’s re-election campaign today announced it will be running a full-page, color advertisement in the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Wednesday, February 19, 2020, the same day as a Democrat primary debate in the same city.  The ad contrasts Democrats’ economy-wrecking, job-destroying policies with the great record of accomplishment under President Trump.

“Nevada voters should know that it doesn’t matter which Democrat becomes their party’s nominee, because the big government socialist agenda will be front and center no matter who it is,” said Kayleigh McEnany, Trump 2020 national press secretary.  “Under President Trump, we’re seeing the best economy in more than 50 years and we’re putting America first again.  Democrats would undo all that success, kill millions of jobs, and raise taxes on top of it.”

DEMAND JUSTICE LAUNCHES NEW ADS ON HARRY REID'S CALL FOR CANDIDATES TO FOCUS ON SUPREME COURT

Digital Ads to Run in Nevada in Advance of Upcoming Presidential Debate

WASHINGTON, DC—Demand Justice announced a new digital ad campaign Wednesday highlighting former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s call for presidential candidates to present their plans for the Supreme Court.

The ads will appear on the digital homepages of the Las Vegas Review-Journal and the Las Vegas Sun in advance of Wednesday’s presidential debate.

Reid recently wrote an op-ed in the Salt Lake Tribune calling on presidential candidates to focus on the Court and commit to nominating diverse, progressive judges. He specifically praised Demand Justice’s shortlist of 32 recommended Supreme Court nominees as a blueprint. Reid wrote: "Any Democratic candidate serious about addressing the urgent crises facing our country needs a plan for dealing with the Supreme Court. This starts with a public commitment to nominate bold, progressive lawyers to the court."

“During his time in the Senate, Harry Reid was committed to confirming fair, qualified judges to the bench, and he overcame historic levels of obstruction to do so,” said Demand Justice Executive Director Brian Fallon. “As candidates campaign in Reid’s home state of Nevada, they should heed his call and pledge to nominate bold, progressive leaders to the Supreme Court.”
