Friday, August 23, 2019 at the  Hilton San Francisco Union Square Hotel in San Francisco, CA.

13 CANDIDATES: Bennet, Booker, Castro, Harris, Klobuchar, Moulton, Ryan, Sanders, Sestak, Steyer, Warren, Williamson and Yang.  Others via video.

Background: The meeting ran from August 22-24.  "The DNC has invited all 2020 Democratic presidential primary candidates to speak on Friday, August 23 in front of the full DNC. Those who were not able to attend were invited to submit videos."  Other highlights of the DNC meeting included a speech from San Francisco's own, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and a rousing oration by Rev. William Barber of the Poor People's Campaign.  A major subtext of the meeting was the push by activists, particularly from the Sunrise Movement, to persuade members of the DNC to support a presidential candidate debate devoted specifically to climate change.  The effort, which has been percolating for several months, came to a head at the Resolutions Committee meeting on Thursday (>) and carried over to the general session on Saturday.  In an unusual step Chairman Perez set an hour for debate on the matter, after which DNC members, voting by paper ballots, rejected the proposal (>).  Confusion, not drama was the watchword for the Rules and Bylaws Committee meeting on Thursday, as members bogged down for several hours over how to handle an ongoing dispute involving the Alabama Democratic Party; eventually the committee was able to return to its work reviewing states' delegate selection plans.
