As governor of Colorado, Hickenlooper worked with a divided legislature to cover nearly 95 percent of Coloradans with health care.

Hickenlooper beat the NRA, passing landmark bans on high-capacity magazines and universal background checks—in a western state.

Fight global warming.
Hick brought environmental leaders and industry groups to the table to create the toughest methane emissions laws in the country.

Defend a woman's right to choose.
For Hick, this is personal. Though their family had limited resources, his mother donated every year to Planned Parenthood. As governor, Hickenlooper made contraception more affordable and accessible.

Voting rights and criminal justice.
Hickenlooper expanded voting rights in Colorado, instituted major police reform initiatives a decade before Ferguson, and closed two prisons.

Improve education and make college affordable.
Hick expanded pre-K to every 4-year-old in Denver and he created a program to help low-­income kids attend college and technical school. As governor, he added $100 million to hold down tuition increases.
