What we socialists believe
People in the U.S. and worldwide are facing unprecedented crises: economic collapse; COVID-19, environmental disaster and racism. Thousands of deaths were preventable. Trump refused to act, mocking experts, predicting COVID's disappearance. We are left alone to suffer untold hardship.

A national plan is urgently needed and possible: Massive, free, rapid testing, PPE, hazard pay for all workers; an income for every jobless person through the pandemic. No one should lose their home for any reason!

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, racist police terror has continued with shootings of Black, Indigenous and Latino people — from George Floyd to Breonna Taylor to Jacob Blake. Today's movement for the dismantling of structural racism is finally forcing some change. Much more is needed.

We are told capitalism is a great system. But it is only great for the capitalists, who hold the economic and political reins of power. It is a disaster for workers and poor people.

Both Donald Trump and Joe Biden oppose Medicare for All. We say, everyone must have free health care! Abolish the parasitic insurance companies. Take over corporations and banks that make obscene trillion-dollar profits.

Working people scrape by with multiple jobs, accumulating debt. It does not have to be like this. Every gain we made — Social Security, Unemployment, Civil Rights — was won by people organizing in mass movements. We fight for reforms, but ultimately we need socialism, where all the wealth that workers produce, is owned and shared by all, a system where true social justice and equality prevail.
