NEWS: The Zero Hour Movement Endorses Sanders for President

WASHINGTON – In a new video released on Friday by Bernie 2020, The Zero Hour Movement announced their endorsement of Sen. Bernie Sanders’ campaign for president. The group’s endorsement highlights the multiracial, multigenerational movement Bernie 2020 is building to not only defeat Donald Trump, but also solve the climate crisis.

“You don’t have to convince [Bernie] and you don’t have to beg him to make common sense decisions. He just does. And it’s obvious, it comes naturally to him.” says Jaime Margolin, the group’s Co-Founder and Co-Executive Director.

Founded by high school students in the summer of 2017 and run almost entirely by young women and people of color, The Zero Hour Movement launched their first actions the summer of 2018 with a Youth Climate Lobby Day and the Youth Climate Marches held in Washington, DC and 25 other cities around the world. Since then, they have been a consistent powerhouse in the climate movement organizing summits, voter turnout initiatives, educational campaigns, climate strikes, protests, and more. They are currently partnered with dozens of major climate action groups around the country and are fighting for legislation like the Green New Deal that would protect our right to a clean and safe environment.

“We are the first generation to feel the effects of the climate crisis, and also, unfortunately, the last generation to do anything about it.” says Director of Operations & Logistics, Kaylah Brathwaite.

This endorsement comes on the heels of growing enthusiasm for the senator, reporting of a consolidation of support by progressive groups behind him including the Sunrise Movement, and rising poll numbers not only nationwide but also in crucial early and Super Tuesday states like CaliforniaTexas, and Pennsylvania. This week, Sen. Sanders also added to his growing list of union endorsements with the American Postal Workers Union, representing over 200,000 members, announcing their support.
