ICYMI: Transport Workers Union Endorses Joe Biden

 Today, the Transport Workers Union (TWU) announced their endorsement for Joe Biden for President of the United States. Amidst the global pandemic, transportation workers are amongst the hardest hit and it is time they have an ally in the Oval Office. Citing Vice President Biden’s strong commitment “to workers in every transportation sector,” TWU issued the following press release:


Washington, D.C. – As transportation workers continue to suffer through the ongoing pandemic, we are all reminded of the importance of strong, pro-worker leadership at every level. More than 110 TWU members have died and another 10% of our members have tested positive for COVID-19 or been quarantined because of a lack of personal protective equipment (PPE) or mandatory worker protections on our transportation systems.
 
Vice President Joe Biden has repeatedly called for an emergency temporary standard from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) which would require these basic protections for all of our members. He has demanded that frontline workers be the priority for access to PPE and testing. Over his entire career, he has demonstrated the strongest commitment to workers in every transportation sector. For these reasons and many more, the Transport Workers Union of America is proud to endorse Vice President Joe Biden for President of the United States.

The Transport Workers Union of America, AFL-CIO, represents more than 151,000 workers in the airline, railroad, transit, universities, utilities and service sectors.

National unions representing a range of other workers and professions have also endorsed Biden, including the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF), United Auto Workers (UAW), International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), National Education Association (NEA), United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW), American Federation of Teachers (AFT), American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), International Association of Bridge, Structural and Ornamental Iron Workers (IW), Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU), Operative Plasterers’ & Cement Masons’ International Association (OPCMIA), and International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), and the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA).
