Washington, D.C
 — Today, People For the American Way board member, civil rights icon and voting rights activist Dolores Huerta is kicking-off the “One Vote at a Time” Virtual Bus Tour in Arizona, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin with several progressive organizations and politically active celebrities to encourage Latino voters to get out and vote in the last two weeks before Election Day. “One Day at a Time,” produced by the legendary Norman Lear, founder of People For the American Way, is the only show on network television focused on a Latino family.

The goal of the bus tour, which is part of People For the American Way’s Latinos Vote! Program, is to safely and securely engage Latino voters across the country, especially immigrant communities, in an inspiring way to learn more about early voting in their states, to help mobilize voters, and to detail what’s at stake for an estimated 32 million eligible Latino voters nationwide, including persuadable Latino voters.

Organization partners on the virtual bus tour include, CASA in Action, MiAZ, Mijente, New Florida Majority, Poder Latinx, Poder NC, and Voces de la Frontera Action. The following “One Day at a Time” cast members will be joining these efforts: Gloria Calderon-Kellett (also Showrunner, Executive Producer, Writer, and Director), Rita Moreno (PEGOT winner), Justina Machado, Isabella Gomez, Todd Grinnell, and Stephen Tobolowsky. See full listing of event dates and times below.

“Dolores Huerta helped pave the way so that Black and Brown voters can fully exercise their right to vote,” said President of People For the American Way Ben Jealous. “At our best we are better as a nation when we value one person, one vote and this election year is when we must all do everything in our power to protect the ideals of this democracy and make a better future come faster.”

“I am so excited about talking to Latino voters and really encouraging eligible voters in our immigrant communities to use their voices in this election and get out to vote,” said Huerta. “Enough of Trump. Basta! We have had enough of the hatred against immigrants, enough family separations, enough mismanagement of this horrible coronavirus that impacts Latino workers disproportionately. We have to fight with the power of our votes because no president or elected official can win without it.”

“This November 3, we want to ensure that every eligible Latino voter has been able to cast a ballot to hold political leaders and influencers accountable for the harm they have done to immigrant and Latino communities,” said People for the American Way Political Director and leader of the Latinos Vote! program Lizet Ocampo. “We are 13 days from the 2020 election and we have the opportunity to flip senate seats, to turn red states blue by engaging Latino voters in the meaningful and impactful ways.”

The virtual bus tour starts one day after Wisconsin’s early voting period at an early voting location site on the South side of Milwaukee, which is predominantly Latino; the tour concludes on October 29, Latina Equal Pay Day. Activities will include live streams of guest speakers, rallies, as well as phone banks and presidential debate watch party.
