Former Bernie Sanders’ Aides Launch PAC to Rally Progressives to Defeat Trump

Future to Believe In PAC will organize Sanders’ base to turn out for Biden and push for long-term progressive gains

WASHINGTON -- Long-time staffers and senior aides to Sen. Bernie Sanders today announced the creation of Future to Believe In, an independent expenditure PAC that will rally the constituencies that supported Sanders’ presidential campaigns to defeat Donald Trump in November. The organization will build on the electoral and policy successes of the progressive movement, drive turnout, and continue to push elected leaders to embrace policies that benefit working families.

Future to Believe In will be governed by an experienced team of former staff of Sen. Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaigns, who over the next six months are committing to organize and turn out the Bernie base with a focus on young voters of all races, very liberal voters, blue collar progressives, and Latino voters in support of Joe Biden.

“Because of the strength of the progressive movement, we together have moved the Democratic Party and the national debate,” said Jeff Weaver, a long-time senior Sanders aide who will help lead the new group. “All that success, however, means little to the people whose interests we seek to represent – working families, the poor, and marginalized communities – if we don’t elect the candidates we have pushed, and continue to push, to be more progressive. Electing Joe Biden as President of the United States will allow some of those gains to be institutionalized so that our movement can focus on pushing the debate even further in years to come.”

In addition to Weaver, who managed Bernie 2016 and was a senior advisor on Bernie 2020, the leadership of Future to Believe In includes Chuck Rocha, the Bernie 2020 senior advisor who spearheaded the overwhelmingly successful Latino outreach efforts; Tim Tagaris, a veteran of both presidential campaigns serving as Digital Fundraising Director in 2016 and as a senior advisor in 2020 focused on the record-breaking small-dollar fundraising and digital advertising efforts; Shelli Jackson, former Bernie 2020 Deputy State Director in the Golden State and veteran California field operative specializing in targeted races.

Collectively, the Future to Believe In team has effectively deployed hundreds of millions of dollars to identify, persuade, and mobilize millions of voters, including communities with lower turnout histories that will be critical to winning in November 2020. They have extensive experience in campaign management, political messaging, multilingual voter communication through digital, mail, radio and television, and all aspects of field including canvassing, calling and texting.

“At this moment we can lock in political gains progressives have made possible through our collective work,” Weaver continued. “We believe it is wrong to abandon the gains earned by the hard-working people who supported Bernie Sanders’ two presidential and who will continue to support economic and social progress through electoral action and non-electoral organizing long into the future.”

Already, the presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden has demonstrated openness to moving in a more progressive direction in areas such as wages, labor rights, higher education funding and health care. Recently, Biden and Sanders have agreed to jointly convene policy task forces to find even more common ground. Future to Believe In will work with supporters, activists and political insiders to expand these gains.

Future to Believe In is not associated with Bernie 2020 or the senator in any capacity.
