Pro-Immigrant Electoral Organization CASA in Action Endorses Bernie Sanders for President

MD, PA, VA – After an extensive candidate engagement process, the Board of Directors of CASA in Action voted this weekend to endorse Bernie Sanders for President.  Their support rests on Senator Sanders’ pledge to radically reform our broken immigration system and his lifetime commitment to radically restructure our economy.

“Our families are under assault from a President that has laid bare enduring racism and xenophobia in the United States,” said Yaheiry Mora, CASA in Action Executive Director. “As an immigrant and as a mother, I am committed to winning this election because the lives of our families literally depend on it.”

CASA in Action has mobilized thousands of Latinos and other voters of colors to the polls through targeted data-driven electoral programs in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. During the 2018 midterm elections, CASA in Action conducted its largest electoral program to date, hiring over 200 staff and conducting simultaneous programming in 8 counties in three states.  Just since 2016, the organization has knocked on more than 589,000 doors.

“From our Board President Gustavo Torres, to our newest Board Member Venice Ramirez elected by our Lancaster Committee just one week ago, our support for Bernie was unanimous,” said Maria Molina, CASA in Action Board Member from York, PA.  “There are many extraordinary candidates running and in Pennsylvania we WILL be electing the Democratic nominee.  And we hope that nominee is Bernie Sanders.”

CASA in Action members also established its top national priorities: legalization for the nation’s millions of undocumented including immediate relief for DED, DACA, and TPS holders; passage of principles included in the Green New Deal; adoption of dramatic reforms to a racist criminal justice system.

“From resolving the crisis facing TPS, DED, and DACA holders, to making sure families have great jobs and healthcare, to supporting self-determination for Puerto Rico, Bernie Sanders is the transformative leader we need to lead us forward,” said Ivania Castillo, a CASA in Action board member from Virginia, a Super Tuesday state. “United we are more strong!”
