After a Packed Hispanic Heritage Month, Latinx Leaders Endorse Kamala Harris, Join Latinos Para Kamala Committee

Harris Gets Endorsements from Presidents of Amigos Salvadoreños and Federación de Clubes Michoacanos Unidos de Nevada

Following a packed Hispanic Heritage Month in Nevada, key Latinx community leaders are endorsing Kamala Harris for president and forming the new Latinos Para Kamala committee. The committee will recruit new members, offer guidance on mobilizing and engaging Nevada's Latinx community, assist in developing caucus education and training materials, and participate in trainings for other Latinos.

These Latinx community endorsements come from people who lead grassroots Latinx organizations. As presidents of diverse Latinx organizations, such as the Amigos Salvadoreños and Federación de Clubes Michoacanos Unidos de Nevada, they will help expand the campaign’s Latinx network. They also demonstrate the momentum and overwhelming support for Kamala Harris among Nevada’s Latinos.

The campaign has taken an unprecedented approach to engaging with the Latinx community, launching “Latinos For The People,” and an online organizing program in Spanish called “Camp Kamala En Español.” Harris also received the endorsement of Arizona Congressman Ruben Gallego the First Vice Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.

“After living through Trump’s horrific immigration policy, we need someone who will listen to our community and give us a seat at the table,” said Assemblywoman Sandra Jauregui. “Justice is indeed on the ballot in 2020 and Kamala Harris has proven that she is not only a fighter for justice for Latinos, but she that she will continue to empower our community. I’m excited to be a part of Latinos Para Kamala in Nevada to mobilize, inform, and organize our community to make sure Kamala Harris is the next president of the United States.”

“As a woman of color in elected office, I understand how critical it is to have people who look like me in positions of power to make decisions for our community. We need someone in the White House who empowers us and the issues we care about,” said Washoe County Recorder Kalie Work. “Launching a Latinos Para Kamala committee is just one example of how Kamala Harris is running a campaign the includes voices of people from every community. I’m proud to be a founding member and help organize our community for Kamala Harris.”

“As a woman, Kamala fights for our rights. She knows that we need equality for all of us,” said Rhina Moreno, president of Amigos Salvadoreños de Las Vegas. And as Latinas, she has us in mind that, as a community, our vote counts and we have a lot to contribute.”

“We need our next president to be strong, smart, and to have lived the same experiences as our community,” said Fermin Ramirez, Latinx community leader and member of Federación de Duranguenses. “I firmly believe that Senator Kamala Harris is the candidate who has all the qualities needed to be in the White House.”

Former Assemblyman Wendell Williams, Former Assemblyman Gene Collins, Southern Nevada Leaders Endorse Kamala Harris

“As president, Kamala Harris will fight for justice in all forms, including economic justice, racial justice, criminal justice, and social justice.”

Today, Kamala Harris is being endorsed by former Nevada Assemblymen Wendell Williams and Gene Collins, African American community leaders Robert “Twix” Taylor, and former senior aide for Sen. Harry Reid, Bill Marion. Former Assemblymen Williams and Collins are strong advocates for the African-American community in Las Vegas, fighting for equality and fairness throughout their careers.

In the Nevada Assembly, Williams was a champion for all Nevadans. He created the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. birthday banquet and parade. Former Assemblyman Collins championed caucuses that improved the life of Nevadans and is the former president of the Las Vegas NAACP, where he advocated for the equal treatment of all Nevadans. Taylor is a Las Vegas business owner, with barber shops all throughout the city, and an African American community leader. Marion is former senior aide for Sen. Harry Reid and current principal at Purdue Marion & Associates.

“The 2020 election is the most consequential election for all Americans in our lifetime. During these times of turbulence and uncertainty, we need a leader who can right the ship and deliver justice for the American people,” said former Assemblyman Wendell Williams. “Senator Harris is the candidate with the vision and insight to see us through, and I’m proud to endorse her for president.”

“As a former assemblyman and former president of NAACP and advocate for the African-American community in Las Vegas, I know we need our next president to be a fearless champion for our community. We need someone who has been with us from the beginning, fighting the systemic racial inequities that hold our community back. That person is Sen. Kamala Harris,” said Gene Collins, former Assemblyman and president of Las Vegas NAACP. “As a black woman, Kamala Harris has the lived experiences that our community faces every day -- she didn’t have to be taught about the challenges we faced. As president, Kamala Harris will fight for justice in all forms, including economic justice, racial justice, criminal justice, and social justice.”

"As a business leader in Las Vegas, I have interacted with hundreds of thousands of Nevadans who have come through my barber shops throughout the years. I have heard their concerns and the issues keeping them up at night -- from a criminal justice system that targets them because of their skin color to the struggles to achieve homeownership,” said Robert “Twix” Taylor, Las Vegas business owner and African American leader. “After meeting Sen. Kamala Harris and welcoming Rep. Barbara Lee to my barber shop to campaign on Sen. Harris' behalf, it is clear to me that Kamala Harris is the candidate who will fight for justice for our community. She will bring justice so we have a fair and equal playing field. I am proud to endorse Kamala Harris today."

“Kamala has an impressive political record of beating the odds,” said Bill Marion, principal at Purdue Marion & Associates and former senior aide for Sen. Harry Reid. “She is compassionate and strong, progressive and responsible. I think she embodies the best of America and speaks to the values of equality and opportunity that we should all aspire to.”

North Tahoe Dems Chair Coralin Glerum, Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe Leader Alan Mandell Endorse Kamala Harris

“She is a model of strength and grace...and backs down from no opponent or challenge”

In the wake of a dominating debate performance last week, Kamala Harris is being endorsed by North Tahoe Dems Chair Coralin Glerum and Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe Leader Alan Mandell. Glerum is a leading northern Nevada Democratic leader and has been outspoken on issues relating to the environment, immigration, and equality.

Under her leadership, the North Tahoe Democrats helped turn Washoe County blue in 2018. Alan Mandell is a longtime leader of the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe in northern Nevada and former chairman of the Pyramid Lake Tribal Council. Mandell’s endorsement comes on the heels of Harris participating via video in the National Congress of American Indians and rolling out her plan to lift up Native American communities.

“Kamala Harris inspires me with her bravery, compassion, intellect and determination,” said Coralin Glerum, North Tahoe Dems Chair. “She is a model of strength and grace, is proud of her lifelong commitment to the Democratic Party, and backs down from no opponent or challenge. Her prosecutorial experience is vital to call out and combat the rampant corruption in our current era. I’m humbled to endorse her candidacy for president of the United States and will do everything in my power to assist her campaign as we rescue the presidency and our nation.”

“I'm proud to endorse Senator Kamala Harris,” said Alan Mandell, Native American leader from the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe. “Her record on Native issues and plan for Native communities speak volumes to her understanding and the kind of president she will be: a champion and fighter for the people.”

As attorney general of California and U.S. Senator, she has stood side by side with Native communities and fought the climate crisis. In her campaign for president, she has released plans to honor tribal sovereignty and solve the climate crisis. As president, Harris will honor the United States’ historic government-to-government relationship with Tribal Nations and invest in Native American communities to secure lasting prosperity. She will also ensure that those responsible for polluting our environment and spreading toxins in our air and water pay for the harm they have caused to public and environmental health.

Nevada State Senator Melanie Scheible Endorses Kamala Harris for President

“Senator Harris will bring integrity, experience, and courage to the office of the president. I am proud to support her candidacy.”

On the heels of Senator Kamala Harris’ successful seventh visit to Nevada, State Senator Melanie Scheible is endorsing her for president. Sen. Scheible first got elected to represent her competitive Senate district that encompasses Spring Valley and Summerlin in 2018 as part of the first majority-female state legislature in the country. She brings Harris’ Nevada endorsements to 30, including six current elected officials, the most out of any Democratic presidential candidates.

In the Senate, Scheible has been a leading voice in improving the lives of Nevada’s children. State Sen. Joyce Woodhouse, Assemblywoman Sandra Jauregui Endorse Kamala Harris Ahead of Second Debate

“I proudly endorse Senator Kamala Harris for president because it’s time we have someone in the White House again who fights for our families.”

Leading up to the second round of Democratic presidential debates, Kamala Harris is picking up two major Nevada endorsements from State Senator Joyce Woodhouse and Assemblywoman Sandra Jauregui, who are members of the nation’s first majority-female state legislature. Woodhouse and Jauregui bring Harris’ Nevada endorsements to 23 and she remains the 2020 presidential candidate with the most endorsements from the Silver State. Woodhouse and Jauregui are leading voices on two of the most critical issues concerning Nevadans -- public education and gun violence prevention.

Senator Woodhouse has been a leader on public education in the Nevada Senate, where she served for over a decade following a long career as a teacher and school principal. As chairwoman of the Senate Finance Committee, Woodhouse helped craft and pass the largest public education budget in Nevada history, which includes a salary increase for educators championed by Gov. Steve Sisolak. Kamala Harris’ plan to close the teacher pay gap represents the largest investment in teachers in American history and would give the average Nevada teacher a $15,000 raise.

Assemblywoman Jauregui is a survivor of the October 1 mass shooting in Las Vegas and an outspoken advocate for gun violence prevention. During the 2019 legislative session, she championed Assembly Bill 291, an omnibus gun violence prevention law that bans bump stocks, enacts “extreme risk” measures, and strengthens penalties for unsafe firearm storage. Kamala Harris has put forth a bold plan to end gun violence by taking executive action to keep our kids and communities safe if Congress fails to send her comprehensive gun safety legislation during her first 100 days in office.

“Kamala Harris will be a president who puts our children first,” said State Senator Joyce Woodhouse, vice-chair of the Senate Education Committee. “Her investment in increasing teacher pay is an ambitious and meaningful plan that will give teachers the respect they deserve and improve educational outcomes for students across Nevada and the country. If we’re serious about improving our education system, we need a bold response to the teacher pay gap that’s holding back students and educators alike. I proudly endorse Senator Kamala Harris for president because it’s time we have someone in the White House again who fights for our families.”

“Nevadans need a president who will fight to address the issues that keep us up at night: the threat of gun violence, rising health care costs, and economic security. Kamala Harris will be that president,” said Assemblywoman Sandra Jauregui. “She's proven that she is not only a fearless leader, but she’s not afraid to take bold action to save lives from gun violence. There is no one I trust more than Senator Harris to take meaningful action to keep our families safe, and that's why I'm proud to endorse her for president.”

Kamala Harris Picks Up More South Carolina and Nevada Support

South Carolina State Senator John Scott and Henderson, Nevada, Councilwoman Gerri Schroder have endorsed Kamala Harris for President. Scott represents Senate District 19 in Richland County, SC. He previously served on the Richland County Council and in the South Carolina House of Representatives. Schroder was elected in 2007, representing Ward 1 in Henderson, NV, the state’s second largest city. She is the only Asian and Pacific Islander American (APIA) currently elected to a city council in Nevada.

Harris visited the Palmetto State last week to meet with educators and community leaders for a roundtable discussion focused on the importance of raising teacher pay. Teachers in South Carolina participated in a Day of Reflection on May 1 to protest ongoing education issues. On April 27, Harris made a campaign stop in Las Vegas to participate in the SEIU/Center for American Progress National Forum on Wages and Working People and to meet with the Culinary Workers Union.

“Kamala Harris has a vision and a plan for the working people of South Carolina,” said Scott. “On each visit to our state, she has stressed the importance of investing in our institutions of higher learning with a focus on the positive impact HBCUs have in Black communities. She has also repeatedly visited oft-ignored rural areas and outlined her vision for economic development while speaking to local concerns like hospital closure and failing water infrastructure. She is a leader for everyday people and I’m proud to join her in this fight to move our nation forward.”

“The prospect of the first woman president and the first president of Asian descent is incredibly exciting,” said Schroder. “With so much at stake, we need a bold champion for the people in the White House who understands the issues that matter and that our diversity is a strength to be celebrated not a weakness to be scapegoated.”

“I am proud to have John and Gerri’s endorsements in this race,” Harris said. “As I campaign across this nation, I hear the same refrain: health care is a right, we need to fully fund public education, and we need an economy that works for working people. With their support and as champions for these issues, together we will continue to present a clear vision for our country’s future.”

Schroder joins Chris Miller, former Chair of the Clark County Democratic Party and State Senator Pat Spearman in endorsing Harris in Nevada. Nevada will hold its caucus contests on Tuesday, February 23, the third state in the 2020 primary schedule. In South Carolina, Harris has previously been endorsed by I.S. Leevy, Bakari Sellers, Representative JA Moore, Representative Pat Henegen, Senator Darrell Jackson, former gubernatorial candidate Marguerite Willis, and Berkeley County Democratic Chair Melissa Watson.

Former Clark County (NV) Dems Chair Chris Miller Endorses Kamala Harris for President

Miller to Host CNN Town Hall Watch Party in Las Vegas

Today, Chris Miller, former Chair of the Clark County, Nevada, Democratic Party, is endorsing Kamala Harris for President. Miller will host a watch party during the Senator’s CNN Town Hall tonight, April 22, where he will lay out why he’s supporting Harris for president.

“I support Senator Kamala Harris for President because she has a deep understanding of America’s strengths and our challenges,” Miller said. “Through her support for America's middle class, fighting for civil rights, equality, criminal justice reform and holding those in power accountable, Senator Harris is the fighter America needs to move our country in a new direction.”

In 2011, Miller made history as the first openly gay Chairman elected to a full, 2-year term of the Clark County Democratic Party. During his three terms in office, Miller and his team were successful in growing the Democratic Party in Southern Nevada - increasing voter registration numbers, reelecting President Obama in 2012 and working towards Nevada’s sweeping Democratic Party victories in 2016.

“I’m extremely proud to have Chris’s endorsement in this race,” Harris said. “I am committed to building a coalition that reflects the diversity of this nation and working together on policies that move our country forward. As I make my way around the Silver State, I look forward to talking to Nevadans about our fight for higher teacher pay, common sense gun safety reform and access to affordable health care.”

Tonight, Miller will host a watch party with supporters for Harris’ CNN Town Hall at 9328 Peace Pipe Ct, Las Vegas, NV, at 6:30PM. The watch party is open to the public.

Miller joins Nevada State Senator Pat Spearman in endorsing Harris in the Democratic presidential primary. Nevada will hold their caucus contests on Tuesday, February 23, the third state in the 2020 primary schedule.

Nevada State Senator and 29-Year Army Veteran Pat Spearman Endorses Kamala Harris for President

Nevada State Senator Pat Spearman endorsed Senator Kamala Harris for president Friday at a rally in Las Vegas. A 29-year veteran of the United States Army, Spearman has represented parts of North Las Vegas and neighboring jurisdictions since 2012 and currently serves as co-majority whip. In the Nevada Senate, she is known as a champion for equal pay for women, LGBTQ rights, and supporting veterans. At the time of her election, she was the first openly lesbian member of the Nevada legislature.

“This nation is ready for change. We are ready for someone who doesn’t mind standing up in the face of adversity and will not make excuses when our Constitution is trampled on,” Spearman said Friday. “We are ready for someone who will carry the banner of freedom and justice for us and honor the oath do defend this democracy against enemies foreign and domestic. We are ready for Senator Kamala Harris as President of the United States.”

Spearman appears to be the first elected official from Nevada to endorse in the Democratic presidential primary. Nevada will hold their caucus contests on Tuesday, February 23, the third state in the 2020 primary schedule.
