South Carolina Democratic Party Convention

C-SPAN video

Saturday, June 22, 2019 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center in Columbia, SC.

23 CANDIDATES: Bennet, Biden, Booker, Buttigieg, de Blasio, Delaney, Gabbard, Gillibrand, Harris, Hickenlooper, Inslee, Klobuchar, Messam, Moulton, O'Rourke, Ryan, Sanders, Swalwell, Warren, Wells, Williamson and Yang.

Background: Following on the SCDP's Blue Palmetto Dinner and Jim Clyburn's World Famous Fish Fry the night before, the Convention was the culminating event of South Carolina Democratic Weekend.  SCDP had initially planned to limit live coverage of the Convention exclusively to MSNBC, but this prompted complaints from other networks (1).  Candidates spoke for seven minutes.  Longshot candidates Wayne Messam and Robby Wells were late additions to the speaking program.  After consideration of resolutions took less time than expected, SCDP chairman Trav Robertson made the decision to allow them to speak although their campaigns had not responded to earlier outreach from the party.
