National Delegate Filing Deadline Extended

Joe,

The South Carolina Democratic Party State Executive Committee met today.  Since several county conventions are scheduled to meet this weekend, the Executive Committee voted to extend the filing deadline for individuals who plan to run for Delegate to August 2020 Democratic National Convention to Monday, May 11 by 5 p.m.

No filing can be accepted after that time for any reason.

To run for national Delegate, you must have voted in the Presidential Primary, attended your precinct meeting, and have been a delegate or alternate to your county convention, and you must be an elected delegate or alternate to the State Convention.

You may run for more than one category of Delegate.   If you wish to run for an At-Large Delegate position you must have signatures of 10 State Convention Delegates to accompany your filing form or you may pay a $50 filing fee.  Due to COVID-19, we have created an Google form that will allow you to submit the names of 10 State Convention Delegates to satisfy the signature requirement. You can access the Google form by clicking this link.

Joe Biden will receive 39 Delegates and 4 Alternates from South Carolina. Bernie Sanders will receive 15 Delegates and 1 Alternate.

We hope you are safe and healthy.

SCDP State Convention Update

Dear Joe,

We hope this email finds you safe and well.

Much of regular, daily life has been significantly altered due to COVID-19. We, too, have been faced with many of the same challenges at the state party. Our staff continues to work remotely. Our candidates are using new and exciting methods to reach voters, and our county conventions were conducted by mail or telephone.

Today, we write about our state party convention initially scheduled for May 30 in Columbia.
We are moving our state convention to a remote format. Our convention’s primary purpose is to elect Delegates to represent South Carolina at the Democratic National Convention this August in Milwaukee, and we had to gain approval from the Democratic National Committee to make changes.

On Monday, June 1 and Tuesday, June 2,
State Convention delegates will vote for Congressional District DNC Delegates via secure online ballots or by phone. Delegates will also vote for South Carolina’s DNC Members.

On Thursday, June 4 and Friday, June 5
, State Convention delegates will vote for At-Large and Party Leaders and Elected Official DNC Delegates. Delegates will vote for the SCDP Platform and Resolutions, Party Rules Changes, and vote on South Carolina’s DNC Members if a runoff is required for any position. Delegates will vote via secure online ballots or by phone.

On Saturday, June 6, at 10 a.m
., we will hold our first-ever “virtual” convention online. We will feature many of our federal candidates and announce the results of our elections.   All Democrats are invited to join us on our Facebook page as we stream our virtual convention live.

County Party leaders, delegates, and alternates will be receiving additional detailed information through the mail and by email over the next few days.

While we know many of you enjoy gathering with Democratic friends across the state for our annual state convention, we know that protecting everyone’s health is essential.

We look forward to seeing you virtually soon!
