GALIVANTS FERRY STUMP ANNOUNCES 2019 PRESIDENTIAL EVENT

Democratic Stump Meeting to Take Place on Monday, September 16
Vice President, Joe Biden, first to accept invitation

GALIVANTS FERRY, S.C. Monday 8/5/2019 – With unprecedented interest in the Democratic presidential primary, this year’s Galivants Ferry Stump speaking will feature a number of presidential contenders. Now in its 143nd year, the 2019 Galivants Ferry Stump  will take place on Monday, September 16,  at Pee Dee Farms General Store in Galivants Ferry, SC.

The Stump, usually held biennially in the spring of election years, has added an autumn event to present presidential hopefuls prior to the SC Democratic primary election in February, 2020. As the “first in the South” primary, South Carolina attracts widespread national attention, and the Galivants Ferry Stump, which often draws crowds of more than 1,000, provides the ideal venue for this historic event.

Hosted by the families of Joseph Holliday and John Monroe Holliday for more than a century, the 2019 Stump will be held at the century-old Pee Dee Farms general store in Galivants Ferry on Highway 501 where it crosses the Little Pee Dee River. The Galivants Ferry Stump is considered the oldest and largest political “stump speaking” in the United States.

The 2019 event will follow the traditional festival format with live bluegrass music, delicious country cuisine and clogging starting at 5 p.m., with the political Speaking beginning at 6 p.m.  Although past keynote speakers have included many national political figures, this will be the first time multiple presidential candidates will speak to South Carolina voters at the historic Stump.

HISTORY OF THE GALIVANTS FERRY STUMP:
In September, 1876, General Wade Hampton arrived in Galivants Ferry on horseback to initiate his historic gubernatorial campaign. This marked the beginning of Democratic dominance in South Carolina politics for the century. Four years later, local businessman Joseph W. Holliday invited county Democratic candidates to speak from his Galivants Ferry store, which was a local gathering place. The Holliday family has been hosting the event on their property on the banks of the Pee Dee River every biennial since then. Images available for media use here, and video clips here.
