March 22, 2020 facebook post

We are living in extraordinary times and they call for extraordinary measures. And I am extraordinarily proud and grateful to be working with the team at the Tennessee Democratic Party.

On Saturday, March 21, more than 1400 Tennessee Democrats REMOTELY participated in 24 separate caucuses, electing 42 delegates to the Democratic Party Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee 2020.

Because of a very complex plan that the TNDP started working on with the DNC in the spring of 2019 (and thank you for chairing the LEAD committee Sylvia S. Woods and Marisa Richmond), the caucuses had to occur on the same day - designated way in advance - and in person across 9 congressional districts. The congressional district conventions were the culmination of over a year of planning, almost 90 county conventions, mounds of paperwork and deadlines, and important calculations based on the results of the March 3 primary.

We had to get every change to the original plan approved by the DNC (who were spectacular to work with, btw).

@Kris Murphy @Maria Brewer @Evan Latt spent countless hours planning, preparing and testing a system to hold the required TNDP Congressional District Delegate  Selection Conventions remotely using teleconferencing software.

Sandra Sepulveda @Emily Cupples @Julio Salazar were with their colleagues every step of the way, learning how it all was supposed to work and assisting in whatever was necessary, whenever it was necessary.

Thank you all for your dedication and your hard work (and your friendship and kindness and humor).

One more thing - we always say that the TNDP is made of up of all of us - every Tennessee Democrat in leadership at any and every level. Yesterday would not have been a success without the help of members of the TNDP State Executive Committee, County Party Chairs and officers and exec committee, and the hundreds of participants. I truly don't know what will happen between now and the expected date of the convention in Milwaukee in July, but I do know that I am so proud to be a Tennessee Democrat.

A MESSAGE FOR Democratic National Convention DELEGATE CANDIDATES AND SELECTORS
Out of an abundance of caution, to protect the health of Tennessee Democratic Party members and their loved ones, and promote social distancing, the TNDP will replace the in-person Congressional District Conventions that were to be held this Saturday, March 21, with remote Congressional District Conventions using a teleconferencing system.

Just like the in-person caucuses, only selectors chosen during the March 7th County Conventions will be able to vote for delegates.

If you are a selector or delegate candidate, you should have received an email yesterday with further instructions.

I know there will be many questions and I encourage you to reach out to me, TNDP executive director, Kris Murphy, at kris@tndp.org, or party affairs director, Maria Brewer, at maria@tndp.org. I can assure you that we will respond as quickly as possible and that we will send out more information as soon as we have an update.
