Independent Review of 2020 Iowa Caucuses Released to IDP State Central Committee

Report Commissioned Following the 2020 Caucuses

DES MOINES — Today, the Iowa Democratic Party State Central Committee received the findings of an independent, internal review report of the 2020 Iowa Caucuses. In February, the state party’s governing body voted to commission the report following the 2020 Iowa Caucuses. Former Iowa Attorney General Bonnie Campbell and former U.S. Attorney Nick Klinefeldt are the lead authors of the report. A link to the full report can be found here.

“The findings of this independent, detailed review of what happened during the 2020 caucuses should speak for itself. In the interest of clarity and public reassurance, the IDP commissioned this self-critical report to help guide conversations as we move forward,” said IDP Chair Mark Smith. “It is deeply unfortunate that technical setbacks overshadowed the selfless work of thousands of volunteers who were committed to making the 2020 caucuses a success. I appreciate the work of former Attorney General Campbell, former U.S. Attorney Klinefeldt and their experienced team for this thorough report. The most important thing for us to do now is to heed these lessons, listen to each other’s ideas, and work together to move forward.”
