Presidential Inaugural Committee Announces Spanish-language Virtual Programming to Celebrate America’s History, Diversity, Commitment to Service

Additional Inaugural Activities to Include Performances and Participation from MANÁ and Alejandro Fernández During “United We Serve: A Celebration of the National MLK Day of Service”

WASHINGTON Today, the Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) announced additional Spanish-language programming in advance of the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on January 20. The PIC will host MANÁ and Alejandro Fernández, two additional participants that reflect the theme of the inauguration, “America United,” and provide an opportunity for Spanish-speaking Americans to join the inauguration virtually as we begin a new national journey that unifies the American people and restores the soul of the nation.

Tonight at 8:00 PM ET, the PIC is hosting “United We Serve: A Celebration of the National MLK Day of Service,” an event that will feature a diverse array of entertainers, inspiring speakers, and stories celebrating the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to service.

“More than political, the voice and power of MANÁ, is about humanity. Today we thank everyone who voted for a better environment, for justice for migrants in the United States, and the well-being of the entire planet. Let’s keep loving, let’s keep serving,” said Fher Olvera, lead singer of MANÁ.

“Today on Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, I am proud to participate in this moment of change and hope for the most vulnerable in our community. This is not a political moment, it is a moment that celebrates our humanity. More than ever, we need to extend a hand out to our neighbors and help where we can. It is a moment to say “I am here for you” to all those who are suffering,” said Alejandro Fernández.

“We are thrilled to offer Spanish-language programming as part of our efforts to engage all Americans during this year's inaugural activities. This year’s inauguration will look different but we’ve put together programming that will allow the American people to participate and celebrate our nation’s strength and resilience as we enter a new era in America. With the help of artists like Alejandro Fernández and MANÁ, we are commemorating the rich diversity in our country, and ensuring that Spanish-dominant households are able to see themselves reflected in the inaugural activities as they enjoy the inauguration from the safety of their homes,” said PIC Communications Director Pili Tobar.

In addition to MANÁ and Alejandro Fernández, other confirmed participants include Aloe Blacc, Rev. Dr. Bernice King, Martin Luther King III, Chesca, Rep. Sharice Davids, Rosario Dawson, Alejandro Fernandez, MANA Andra Day, Yo-Yo Ma, Rev. Al Sharpton, Sean Patrick Thomas, Diane Warren, Lynn Whitfield, Bebe Winans, and more.

Events will be live streamed at http://bideninaugural.org/watch and on the PIC’s social media platforms, including YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.

Over the course of five days of programming, “America United” activities will honor inaugural traditions while safely allowing more Americans than ever before to participate from their own homes. These activities include, “United We Serve,” a National Day of Service on January 18, Martin Luther King Jr. Day; a nationwide COVID-19 Memorial to Lives Lost on January 19; and the official Inaugural Ceremonies, a wreath laying on Arlington National Cemetery, a “Parade Across America,” and a “Celebrating America” primetime program on January 20. The PIC will also install an extensive public art display — a “Field of Flags,” which will cover the National Mall up to 13th Street — to represent the American people who are unable to travel to Washington, DC.

Additional details about these and other inaugural activities will be released in the coming days. For the latest updates on inaugural programming and activities, visit bideninaugural.org.
