Biden-Harris

(corrected!) On Tuesday Aug. 11, 2020 the Biden campaign announced by tweet his selection of U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris as his running mate.  Harris, the freshman senator from California and former state attorney general, is perhaps best known for her prosecutorial questioning of witnesses in hearings on Capitol Hill.  Her own campaign for the 2020 presidential nomination started out with a flourish at a large rally in Oakland in January 2019, but the effort failed to gain traction and she suspended the campaign in December.  Nonetheless Harris was seen as a, or the, leading contender for the VP slot from the outset, particularly as Biden came under pressure to choose a Black woman.  Democrats and allied groups lauded the "historic selection" and "exceptional choice" of Harris, while the Trump campaign and allies described her as a "phony" and a "radical."

Fact Sheet from Biden for President

BIDEN-HARRIS: READY TO LEAD

Joe Biden is running to restore the soul of the nation and unite the country to move us forward.  Joe knows more about the importance of the Vice Presidency than just about anyone, and he is confident that Kamala Harris will be the best partner for him to finally get the country back on track.

Since Donald Trump became president, he has made everything worse. He has pursued economic policies that reward wealth over work and benefited corporations and his buddies over working families. He has walked away from American leadership on the national stage. He has used division and stoked hatred for political purposes to pit Americans against one another.

Joe knows that we can’t just return to the way things were - we have to build back better. From her track record of managing through multiple crises to standing up for the people who need it most, Joe knows that Kamala will be ready to tackle the work that is needed to heal our country on Day One of the Biden-Harris Administration.

KAMALA’S BIO
The first Black and Indian American woman to represent California in the United States Senate, Kamala Harris grew up believing in the promise of America and fighting to make sure that promise is fulfilled for all Americans. Kamala’s father immigrated to the U.S. from Jamaica to study economics and her mother immigrated from India. Kamala’s mother told her growing up “Don’t sit around and complain about things, do something,” which is what drives Kamala every single day.

Kamala started fighting for working families  in the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office, where she focused on prosecuting child sexual assault cases. From there, she became the first Black woman elected as San Francisco’s District Attorney. In this position, she started a program to provide first-time drug offenders second chances with the opportunity to earn a high school degree and find a job.

In 2010, Kamala became the first Black woman to be elected California Attorney General, overseeing the country’s second largest Justice Department, only behind the U.S. Department of Justice. In this capacity, she managed a $735 million budget and oversaw more than 4,800 attorneys and other employees. As California Attorney General, Kamala fought for families and won a $20 billion settlement for California homeowners against big banks that were unfairly foreclosing on homes.

Kamala worked to protect Obamacare, helped win marriage equality for all, defended California’s landmark climate change law and won a $1.1 billion settlement against a for-profit education company that scammed students and veterans. Kamala also fought for California communities and prosecuted transnational gangs who drove human trafficking, gun smuggling and drug rings.

Since being elected to the U.S. Senate in 2016, Kamala has introduced and co-sponsored legislation to help the middle class, increase the minimum wage to $15, reform cash bail, and defend the legal rights of refugees and immigrants.

Kamala serves on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence that deals with the nation’s most sensitive national security and international threats.  She also serves on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee where she oversees the federal government’s response to natural disasters and emergencies, including the Trump administration’s response to COVID-19.

On the Senate Judiciary Committee, Kamala has held Trump administration officials accountable and was a powerful voice against Trump’s conservative judicial nominations.

Kamala graduated from Howard University, where she was in the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, and earned a law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of Law.

Kamala has been married to her husband Doug for the past six years. She is the stepmother of two children, Ella and Cole who are her “endless source of love and pure joy.”

KAMALA’S PARTNERSHIP WITH JOE BIDEN

  • Kamala Harris served as California’s Attorney General at the same time as Joe Biden’s son, Beau, was serving as Attorney General for Delaware. The two grew close while fighting to take on the banking industry. Through her friendship with Beau, she got to know Joe Biden.
  • From hearing about Kamala from Beau, to seeing her fight for others directly, Joe has long been impressed by how tough Kamala is.
  • Particularly on the Senate Judiciary Committee - which Joe used to lead - Kamala has distinguished herself as a fighter on behalf of the American people, on issues ranging from corruption, to women’s rights and election interference.
  • Kamala doesn’t hesitate to take on powerful people and powerful interests, and that’s exactly the kind of leader Joe wants by his side to rebuild this country and restore the soul of the nation.

KAMALA’S RECORD OF RESULTS FOR WORKING FAMILIES

COVID-19 and Health Care
  • Kamala has worked to address the racial and ethnic disparities resulting from  the Trump’s administration’s failed response to the pandemic by introducing the COVID-19 Racial and Ethnic Disparities Task Force Act. Kamala’s legislation would establish a team of policy experts, regional leaders, and federal officials to develop policy and funding prescriptions based on demographic data to combat issues facing minority and underserved communities.
  • Kamala has a record of taking on corporations who are defrauding the health care system. As Attorney General, she oversaw a $241 million settlement against Quest Diagnostics, for overbilling California’s insurance program for 15-plus years.

Economy & Workers
  • Kamala took on the big banks on behalf of California homeowners and won a $20 billion settlement, the largest settlement of any attorney general in America.
  • As District Attorney , she prosecuted companies that cheated workers out of their earnings  and jeopardized their safety on the job. As Attorney General, she fought for California’s public employee unions. And as Senator, she stood against the harmful Janus decision.
  • Kamala supports a $15 minimum wage, cosponsoring legislation to raise wages for underpaid Americans.

Criminal Justice
  • Kamala, as San Francisco DA, championed a leading re-entry program to direct young people arrested for drug crimes into training and counseling programs instead of jail.
  • Kamala’s Department of Justice was the first statewide agency to mandate a body camera program, launched  implicit bias and procedural justice trainings, and created a public database, including data on deaths in police custody and arrest rates.
  • As Senator, Kamala has championed sentencing reform, ending the cash bail system, and giving proper funding to public defenders.

Education
  • As Attorney General, Kamala obtained a $1.1 billion judgement against for-profit Corinthian Colleges for predatory practices that saddled students with debt and useless degrees.
  • Kamala co-sponsored Senator Elizabeth Warren’s bill to allow students with existing debt to refinance at the interest rates available to new borrowers.

Environment
  • As Attorney General, Kamala took on big oil companies and went to court to defend the Obama-Biden Clean Power Plan and New Source Standards.
  • As Attorney General, Kamala sued corporations like Chevron and BP for damaging the environment, and won. And, she sued corporations for their role in exposing Californians to excessive levels of diesel.
  • As San Francisco District Attorney, Kamala created the first-ever unit focused on environmental justice.

Kamala Fighting for Women
  • Kamala was the first woman elected to serve as both San Francisco DA and California AG.
  • As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Sen. Kamala has grilled Trump’s extreme anti-choice judicial nominees, like Brett Kavanaugh.
  • As Attorney General, Kamala cracked down on the sex trafficking of women into California and prosecuted sexual assaults.  In her year in office, she eliminated the backlog of untested rape kits.
  • And, as District Attorney, she worked with community leaders to establish a safe house for victims of human trafficking -- the first of its kind in San Francisco.

Kamala Fighting for the Black Community
  • As a student at Howard University, Kamala was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) – the oldest Greek-letter sorority for black women. It was during her time at Howard that she joined protests on the National Mall against apartheid in South Africa.
  • Kamala was the first Black woman to be elected San Francisco District Attorney and Attorney General of California, and only the second Black woman elected to the United States Senate.
  • In the Senate, Kamala championed a bill to make lynching a federal crime.

Kamala Fighting for the Latino Community
  • Kamala joined Congresswoman Veronica Escobar in leading the charge to demand that migrant children be released from HHS and DHS custody during the pandemic.
  • While Attorney General, she ensured unaccompanied minors seeking refuge in the U.S. had access to pro-bono counsel.
  • After Hurricane Maria, Kamala sponsored the COUNT Victims Act that provides FEMA more resources to calculate the death toll from a natural disaster.

Kamala Fighting for the LGBTQ+ Community
  • As San Francisco District Attorney, Kamala established an LGBT hate crimes unit, dedicated to pursuing hate crimes against LGBTQ+ students.
  • As Attorney General, Kamala refused to defend Proposition 8 in court.  She also officiated the first same-sex wedding in California after the U.S. Supreme Court ended Proposition 8.
  • Kamala has a 100% rating from the Human Rights Campaign.

Democratic National Committee

DNC on Joe Biden’s VP Selection of Kamala Harris

DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement after Joe Biden announced his selection of Kamala Harris as his vice presidential running mate:

“Kamala Harris is an extraordinary leader. And she’s going to make an extraordinary vice president. Throughout her career, Senator Harris has championed working families and helped us build a better nation for all – no matter what you look like, where you come from, who you love, or how you pray. Through her service on the Senate Intelligence and Judiciary Committees, she has amassed the necessary experience to confront the biggest threats facing our nation at home and abroad. From fighting big oil, to taking on the gun lobby, to going after big banks, Kamala Harris is afraid of no one. Her leadership as California’s attorney general and in the U.S. Senate has made our country stronger. She shares the values of Joe Biden and Democrats across the country who want to rebuild our economy and restore the soul of our nation. And she will make history as the first woman, first African American, and first Indian American to serve as our nation’s vice president.

“Joe Biden approached this decision with the same care and sound judgement he’ll show as president. He knows Kamala Harris is ready for this job on day one, and he knows she has the empathy, experience, and character to lead. Just as importantly, Senator Harris will continue to show generations of young women, particularly young women of color, that there is no height to which they cannot aspire. Together, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are Donald Trump and Mike Pence’s worst nightmare. They are going to win this election, end this pandemic, and build a brighter future for all Americans.”

Statement on the Announcement of the Democratic Vice-Presidential Nominee

#WinWithBlackWomen

We come together as Black women leaders to congratulate Joe Biden on his historic selection of Senator Kamala to be his Vice Presidential running mate.  We are also deeply honored to congratulate Kamala Harris on your groundbreaking candidacy to become the 49th Vice President of the United States.

This day would not be possible without Joe Biden’s commitment to selecting a woman to be his Vice President.  Joe Biden’s wise decision fills us with pride and gratitude.  It has been 36 years since Geraldine Ferraro was selected by Walter Mondale to be his VP running mate in the 1984 Presidential Election Cycle. Back then no Black woman was ever under consideration.

Today, we stand on the shoulders of our ancestors, pioneers such as Sojourner Truth, Shirley Chisholm, Barbara Jordan and countless Black women who have sacrificed and worked tirelessly for this historic moment.  We honor their wisdom, hard work and talent that has contributed to so much of our country’s progress.   They are watching as Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden and Vice Presidential nominee Kamala Harris, write a new entry into the history of Black women in America.

The Biden-Harris ticket is the leadership America needs at this pivotal moment to unify our country and move America into a bold future.  This winning combination will lead Democrats to win the White House, take back the U. S. Senate, expand their majority in the U. S. House of Representatives; and win down ballot races in state and local races across the country on November 3, 2020.

We pledge to our Democratic Presidential and Vice-Presidential nominees, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris that we have your back.  As the most loyal voters in the Democratic Party we will bring everything we have to igniting and mobilizing Black voters across all demographics to show up in record numbers because the road to the White House will again be powered by Black women.  As voters we are 16 million strong and as leaders, we are ready to ensure victory in November, and look forward to working with you throughout the rest of this campaign and into a Biden-Harris White House on advancing a bold agenda for Black women, and all of America.  In 2020 we will #WinWithBlackWomen2020!

HRC President: Kamala Harris “Exceptional Choice” for Vice President

If elected, Harris, the daughter of immigrants, would become the first female, first Black, first AAPI Vice President

WASHINGTON -- Today, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) civil rights organization praised the selection of U.S. Senator Kamala Harris of California as Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden’s Vice President.

“Senator Kamala Harris is nothing short of an exceptional choice for Vice President,” said Alphonso David, President of the Human Rights Campaign. “Throughout her groundbreaking career, Senator Harris has been an outspoken advocate for the LGBTQ community, standing with us when many, even sometimes those within her own party, did not. As a presidential candidate, Harris spoke with deep understanding of and empathy for the issues our community faces. It’s clear the Biden-Harris ticket marks our nation's most pro-equality ticket in history. Now it's time to come together, unite like never before, and turn the page on the Trump-Pence brand of lies and hate.”

In 2013, Kamala Harris officiated the first marriage between a same-sex couple in the state of California between Proposition 8 plaintiffs Kris Perry and Sandy Stier.

As a Presidential candidate, Harris released one of the most substantive LGBTQ policy agendas of any candidate in the presidential field. She attended the historic HRC-CNN Power of our Pride Town Hall where she discussed her in-depth agendas to combat HIV/AIDS among black and brown people and reduce violence against the transgender and gender non-conforming community, particularly Black transgender women.

As Senator of the state with the highest number of LGBTQ people in our nation, Kamala Harris has been one of our community’s strongest allies in Congress earning a perfect 100 on every HRC Congressional Scorecard while serving in the U.S. Senate. She co-sponsored the Equality Act, crucial federal legislation that would finally guarantee explicit protections for LGBTQ people under our nation's existing civil rights laws. She supports efforts to prevent anti-LGBTQ bullying in schools, opposed using religion as a license to discriminate, and supports banning harmful “conversion therapy.” She called on all of us to speak out against transphobia and homophobia and challenged our nation to do better, and combat the underlying struggles that lead to continued violence against our community. She defended the Affordable Care Act and advocated for inclusive, substantive health care for people with preexisting conditions and LGBTQ people.  As Attorney General of California, she helped end the use of “gay panic defenses” and refused to defend the discriminatory Proposition 8 -- a 2008 California ballot measure that eliminated the right for same-sex couples to marry -- a position that was eventually upheld by a federal judge.

The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people. HRC envisions a world where LGBTQ people are embraced as full members of society at home, at work, and in every community.

Harris Announcement Popular Among Latinos

Former Vice President Joe Biden announced Kamala Harris to be his running mate in the 2020 presidential election. Our recent poll on behalf of Voter Participation Center and Voto Latino found that 59% of Latino voters in key battleground states said they would be excited about Harris as VP, and 52% say the selection of Harris will make them more likely to vote for Biden. Just 20% said they would be less likely to vote Biden, giving him a net 32 point advantage with a Harris pick. With almost two-thirds of Latinos identifying as Democrats, Biden is positioned to receive a significant boost among Latinos by selecting Harris, which could mobilize this important base in the election against Donald Trump.

Kamala Harris has proven  to be a strong contender for Latino voters in the past. As attorney general of California, Harris won a majority of support from Latino voters twice in 2010 and 2014. She beat Loretta Sanchez for California’s first open Senate seat in nearly a quarter century in 2016. As her support among Latinos grew throughout the campaign, polls showed her breaking even or surpassing the popular Loretta Sanchez by election day.

Harris’ past performance with Latino voters in California translated to similar growth with Latino voters throughout the Democratic primary. A poll sponsored by Univision showed a surprising 16% jump, from 6-22%, in Latino support for Harris following the July 2019 debate. In fact, Harris was a favorite among Latino voters in the primary; leading the pack with Julián Castro, Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders.  Harris’ favorability among Latinos was 53% after July and she has remained one of the top favorites for Latinos throughout.

Kamala Harris was the first to provide simultaneous Spanish language translation at a campaign event in Nevada. She was led by Latino campaign manager Juan Rodriguez and noted Latina senior advisor Emmy Ruiz. Harris had established a record of support over the years in her battles in the Golden State where Latinos now outnumber all other groups.  She championed Latino causes, taking a chance with a California electorate that had at times voted to limit the rights of immigrants.  Not surprisingly, Harris' work won her the endorsement Latina civil rights legend Dolores Huerta when she was running to represent the Democratic Party for president.

Harris’ selection is an opportunity for Biden to capitalize on the Latino vote and mobilize young Latino voters. She recently showed vocal support for the Black Lives Matter movement by standing along the protesters, and her position as a Black woman will present opportunities for conversations about race and ethnicity with renewed depth. In the same battleground poll of Latinos, Harris' favorability strengthened by twenty-three points among those respondents who supported the BLM protestors.

American Bridge Applauds Biden For Selection of Sen. Kamala Harris as Running Mate

Today, American Bridge President Bradley Beychok issued the following statement applauding the selection of Senator Kamala Harris for the nomination of Vice President.

“Game on,” said American Bridge President Bradley Beychok. “Senator Kamala Harris has dedicated her life to making this country better for the American people. She is an excellent choice and there’s no one who will better prosecute the case against four more years for Donald Trump. We are all in on this history-making ticket, and we will continue to deploy every resource at our disposal to ensure Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are elected in November.”

Trump campaign statement on Kamala Harris

“Not long ago, Kamala Harris called Joe Biden a racist and asked for an apology she never received. Clearly, Phony Kamala will abandon her own morals, as well as try to bury her record as a prosecutor, in order to appease the anti-police extremists controlling the Democrat Party. In her failed attempt at running for president, Kamala Harris gleefully embraced the left’s radical manifesto, calling for trillions of dollars in new taxes and backing Bernie Sanders’ government takeover of healthcare. She is proof that Joe Biden is an empty shell being filled with the extreme agenda of the radicals on the left.

“Joe Biden is no moderate, and with Harris as his ‘political living will,’ he is surrendering control of our nation to the radical mob with promises to raise taxes, cut police funding, kill energy jobs, open our borders, and appease socialist dictators. At the ballot box, Americans will resoundingly reject the abysmal failures of Biden-Harris in favor of the America First strength of President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.”

 - Katrina Pierson, Trump 2020 senior advisor

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris Would Destroy America

By selecting Kamala Harris as his running mate, Joe Biden has fully surrendered to his far-left base and appointed Harris as his political living will. Biden is nothing more than a Trojan horse for the radical left's extreme agenda, and Phony Kamala is eager to fill his empty shell. Harris has abandoned her own morals in an attempt to appease the socialist mob seeking to destroy America. Biden and Harris' disastrous proposals of defunding the police, increased taxes, job-killing policies, and opening our borders are just a few of the many ways they would destroy America.

Team Trump hosted a press call Tuesday with Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Trump 2020 Senior Advisor Katrina Pierson on the Biden/Harris socialist agenda for America.

“The Biden campaign is moving further left, and what you’re seeing, with the selection of Kamala Harris as his running-mate, this has completed the leftist takeover of the party and of their radical agenda. Kamala Harris will be the most liberal, leftist nominee for VP that our country has ever seen,” said Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN).

"It was not long ago that Kamala Harris called Joe Biden a racist and asked for an apology that she never probably received. And just last year, she admitted to Joe Biden's policies leading to mass incarceration, and she is now trying to bury her egregious record as a prosecutor in order to appease the anti-police extremists that are now controlling the radicalized Democrat Party. Kamala is in this for political convenience, it is clearly her primary motivator," said Katrina Pierson, Trump 2020 Senior Advisor.

Republican National Committee

RNC Statement On Biden's Radical VP Pick

WASHINGTON – Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel released the following statement on Joe Biden's radical vice-presidential pick:

"A hiding, diminished, and incoherent Joe Biden didn’t just select a vice-presidential candidate, he chose the person who would actually be in charge the next four years if he is somehow able to win. Kamala Harris’ extreme positions, from raising taxes to abolishing private health insurance to comparing law enforcement officials to the KKK, show that the left-wing mob is controlling Biden’s candidacy, just like they would control him as president. These radical policies might be popular among liberals, but they are well outside the mainstream for most Americans," said RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel.

Far-Left Radical Harris Gives Democrats The Most Extreme Ticket In History

Sen. Kamala Harris’ Radical Agenda Proves That Joe Biden
Is The Candidate Of The Far-Left
___________________________

KAMALA HARRIS, WHO ONCE SEETHED AT TALK THAT SHE COULD BE TAPPED AS VP, HAS WARMED TO THE IDEA SINCE ENDING HER OWN RUN FOR PRESIDENT
On August, 11, 2020, Joe Biden chose Senator Kamala Harris to be his running mate on the Democratic ticket.
In 2019, Harris brushed aside speculation that she might be chosen as Biden’s VP joking that it should be the other way around, but behind the scenes Harris and her allies fumed at the “demeaning” narrative.
However, after her own run for president failed, Harris has changed her tune saying she would be “honored” to be selected to run alongside Joe Biden.
HARRIS WILL FACE AN UNPRECEDENTED LEVEL OF SCRUTINY AND ATTENTION AS SHE WILL BE SEEN AS THE PRESIDENT-IN-WAITING
77 year-old Joe Biden has not committed to a 2024 run, meaning the woman selected as Joe Biden’s running mate will likely be seen as a “president-in-waiting.”
As the former Vice President continues to campaign primarily from his Delaware basement, he’ll have to pick a candidate who can stand up to the intense scrutiny she will likely face.
With Biden planning to serve as a “transition candidate” for a new wave of younger and more diverse Democrats, his pick is also likely to face a degree of attention that few vice presidents ever have.
In line with this role Biden has surrounded himself with far-left progressives, tapping Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), and Rep. Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) among others to help shape his policy platform.
Former Obama senior adviser Dan Pfeiffer: “Joe Biden’s vice president will most likely be the most powerful vice president in history.”
IT’S NOT SURPRISING THAT HARRIS WAS ABLE TO PUT HER FEELINGS ASIDE ABOUT BIDEN, AS THE TWO OF THEM ARE IN LOCKSTEP WHEN IT COMES TO THEIR RADICAL LEFT-WING AGENDA
Both have backed Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez’s $93 trillion Green New Deal, a proposal described as a “Wishlist to fix what they perceive as all that ails society”
Harris backed Biden in 2015 when he was tapped by President Obama to “spearhead” the lobbying effort on the Iran Nuclear Deal, saying it was “our best option.”
Biden has already shifted his education plan to include a $600 billion “College for All” proposal Harris backed in 2017.
Both Harris and Biden have vowed to raise income taxes by an average of $1,400.
AS A CALIFORNIA PROSECUTOR, HARRIS WAS MORE FOCUSED ON PLAYING POLITICS THAN FIGHTING CRIME AND RESULTS PROVED COSTLY INCLUDING A RISING HOMICIDE RATE AND PLEA DEALS FOR SERIOUS CRIME OFFENDERS
As San Francisco District Attorney, Harris inflated the office’s conviction rate by offering plea deals to defendants accused of serious crimes.
In cases that actually went to trial, Harris’ office underperformed comparable prosecutors’ offices in the state.
During Harris’ tenure as District Attorney, San Francisco’s homicide rates rose.
HARRIS’ ATTEMPTS TO INFLATE HER OFFICE’S CONVICTION RATES LET MURDERERS OFF THE HOOK AND PUT PREDATORS BACK ON THE STREETS
In 2004, Harris chose not to seek the death penalty against a gang member who killed a San Francisco police officer against the wishes of Democratic Senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer as well as the officer’s wife.
District Attorney Harris granted probation to DeVaughndre Broussard, who then went on to murder San Francisco journalist Chauncey Bailey and Odell Roberson Jr.
Prosecutors in Harris’ office then offered Broussard another deal, the opportunity to plead guilty in exchange for a shorter sentence and cooperation in other investigations.
Harris chose not to seek the death penalty against an illegal immigrant and MS-13 gang member who shot a father and his two sons after mistaking them for a rival gang.
Harris refused to charge a man who fatally assaulted someone outside of a professional baseball game with murder, instead allowing him to plead to one year in jail.
HARRIS IS SO RADICAL SHE COMPARED U.S. IMMIGRATION AND CUSTOMS ENFORCEMENT (ICE) TO THE KU KLUX KLAN DURING HER TIME ON CAPITOL HILL
During a Capitol Hill hearing, Harris asked Ronald Vitiello, President Trump’s then-nominee to lead ICE, if he was “aware of the perception of many about how the power and the discretion at ICE is being used to enforce the laws and do you see any parallels [with the KKK]?”
Vitiello pushed back on Harris’ comments, saying “I do not see any parallels” between the two.
Republican National Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel called Harris’ comments “disgusting” and said “Kamala Harris is trying to launch her 2020 campaign off of comparing ice officers to the KKK.”
Then-GOP Spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany called the comments “utter, complete & horrifying disrespect for our law enforcement officers.”
HARRIS’ EMBRACE OF BIDEN IS A COMPLETE REVERSAL FROM ONLY A YEAR AGO WHEN SHE EXCORIATED BIDEN FOR HIS POLICIES ON RACISM AND MADE T-SHIRTS HIGHLIGHTING HIS INVOLVEMENT IN SEGREGATIONIST BUSSING POLICIES
During the Democratic Primary fight, Harris was deeply critical of Biden’s policies on race particularly his connections to senators who “built their reputations and career on the segregation of race in this country.
CNN’s Jake Tapper: Sen. Harris has been “quite critical of Vice President Biden's policies on race.”
Harris unleashed on Biden over his role in crafting the 1994 crime bill, she says led to the mass incarceration crisis plaguing communities of color to this day, something Biden denies.
The sharpest criticism came when Harris said it was “simply false” that Biden shared her position on bussing, slamming him for working with segregationists to oppose it as a means of integrating public schools.
Harris: “Let's be clear about this. had those segregationists their way, I would not be a member of the U.S. Senate, Cory Booker would not be a member of the U.S. Senate, and Barack Obama would not have been in the position to nominate him to the title he now holds.”
Harris said that Biden’s opposition to bussing was “personal” to her, “you know, there was a little girl in California who was part of the second class to integrate her public schools, and she was bussed to school every day. And that little girl was me.”
MUCH LIKE BIDEN, HARRIS HAS LEVERAGED HER OFFICE THAT IS OUT OF TOUCH WITH THE SOCIALIST POLICIES SHE CLAIMS TO FIGHT FOR
Harris claims to fight for the middle-class but has drawn criticism for using her position to live a wealthy lifestyle.
A former aide said Harris is “adamant” about spending campaign funds the way she wants, and another aide said she “demands a life of luxury .”
During 2017 and 2018, Harris received “unprecedented” protection from the LAPD, even when not in Los Angeles, costing the city’s taxpayers over $28,000 .
Harris’ out-of-town security program ended after a lawsuit was filed against the Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, that forced him to turn over records detailing taxpayer expenses.

Biden picks San Francisco Bay area radical for VP

Aug. 11, 2020, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement responding to former Vice President Joe Biden’s choice for running in Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.):

“Joe Biden’s choice of Kamala Harris to be his successor in the highest office of the land is a perfect example of someone failing up.  Harris has proven herself to be little more than a nasty partisan who only appeals to far-left coast socialists.  Her performance during the confirmation hearings for Justice Brett Kavanaugh revealed the presumptive Democratic Party nominee for Vice President to be little more than a wild eyed radical devoted to the politics of personal destruction, and just as Democrats overwhelmingly rejected her in their primary for president, Americans as a whole will reject her as the next in line to the presidency. In picking Harris, Joe Biden chose the Antifa wing of the Democratic Party, making the stark differences between the two visions for America crystal clear.”

Kamala Harris Is Another Reason To Vote Green

History of Harsh Law Enforcement and Corporatism

(August 11, 2020 - Syracuse, NY) Former Vice President Joe Biden’s selection of Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate shows Biden doubling down on his long history of excessive law enforcement and support for the war on drugs.

In a year of national uprising against police violence, Kamala Harris who spent 25 years in law enforcement is an ironic selection. Her campaign for president ended quickly as she dropped out of the race two months before the Iowa Caucus and three days before the filing deadline to be on the ballot in her home state of California, where she was behind in the polls. Part of her decline was caused by voter dismay at her reversal on Medicare For All, when she flip-flopped to a policy that subsidized private health insurance and misleadingly continued to call it Medicare for All.

While Joe Biden was the principal legislative architect of the drug war and mass incarceration from his time on the Senate Judiciary Committee, Harris’s record as a prosecutor and Attorney General was as a foot soldier in the drug war and mass incarceration. As the San Francisco  District Attorney drug-related prosecutions increased from 56 percent in 2003 to 74 percent in 2006. In 2019, she admitted smoking marijuana in college but while Attorney General of California from 2011-2017, Harris sent at least 1,560 people to prison over marijuana-related offenses. In 2014, a week after the New York Times called for legal marijuana, Harris laughed when asked if she supported it. Now, she supports ending federal laws against marijuana, a position not held by Biden.

While Biden sponsored mandatory sentencing, Harris defended one of the worst mandatory sentencing laws in the US, California’s ‘three strikes law’ that also applied to “minor” felonies. She campaigned against a voter initiative that would have reformed this to require serious or violent felonies for life sentences. Harris did not take a position on two ballot initiatives in 2012 and 2014 that would have reduced punishment for low-level crimes and given judges more flexibility at sentencing. Both initiatives passed without her support.

After the killing of Michael Brown in Ferguson, MO, police accountability was on the agenda in the California legislature. Harris refused to take a position on racial profiling by police.
