ICYMI: More Than 100 McCain Alumni Endorse Joe Biden for President

Today, more than 100 alumni of the notable Senator and former Republican presidential nominee John McCain, came out in support of Joe Biden for President of the United States. In announcing their support, they cited Biden’s “history of bipartisanship,” and stated that the election of Biden “is clearly in the national interest.” The alumnus that endorsed Biden ranged from former chiefs of staff to  press assistants, press secretaries, and campaign managers. Former McCain Alumni released the following statement:

“Working for John McCain was an honor, and his example of public service remains a lasting influence on us. His motto, “country first,” and his frequent call on Americans to serve causes greater than our self-interest were not empty slogans like so much of our politics today. They were the creed by which he lived and he urged us to do the same. It is in that spirit that we are supporting his friend, Joe Biden.

These are unusual times, and this is not an easy decision for Republicans to make. Many of us disagree with the positions espoused by the Democratic ticket, but we are heartened by Joe Biden’s history of bipartisanship.

“We trust that as President, Joe Biden will lead an urgent, comprehensive national effort to contain the COVID pandemic. We trust he will call on Americans to remember our common interests and responsibilities, and not worsen the grievances that have polarized our politics. And we trust that he will defend American interests and values from all enemies, foreign and domestic.

“Given the incumbent president’s lack of competent leadership, his efforts to aggravate rather than bridge divisions among Americans, and his failure to uphold American values, we believe the election of former Vice President Biden is clearly in the national interest.

“For those reasons and more, we feel certain supporting Joe Biden is the right decision for our country in this dangerous moment. This is a cause worth the fighting for.”
