Biden for President Announces Climate Engagement Advisory Council

Today, Biden for President announced the formation of a new Climate Engagement Advisory Council. The Council will advise the campaign on mobilizing voters who care about climate change and environmental justice to vote for Joe Biden in November. The Council will consist of Tom Steyer, Carol M. Browner, Dr. Cecilia Martinez, Lonnie Stephenson, Congresswoman Deb Haaland, and former South Carolina State Representative Harold Mitchell.

The council will work with the Biden campaign to develop and execute plans to engage key communities most affected by climate change and environmental injustices, including young Americans, communities of color, union households, and more. The formation of the Climate Engagement Advisory Council builds upon the campaign’s ongoing engagement and bold policies already outlined by Biden. Shortly after announcing his campaign, Biden detailed his Plan for a Clean Energy Revolution and Environmental Justice — an ambitious plan to lead the world in addressing the climate emergency while creating good-paying, union jobs.

“We are excited to work with climate and environmental justice leaders from across the country to bolster our campaign’s continued collaboration with climate action leaders, environmental justice advocates, and union members,” said Jen O’Malley Dillon, Campaign Manager, Biden for President. “The Climate Engagement Advisory Council will strengthen our efforts to engage climate voters to elect Joe Biden, so he can deliver on his plan to start a clean energy revolution and create millions of good-paying, union jobs.”

The members of Biden for President’s Climate Advisory Council include:
  • Tom Steyer, Climate Activist and Philanthropist
  • Dr. Cecilia Martinez, Co-Founder and Executive Director, Center for Earth, Energy & Democracy*
