RE: Biden
for President Arizona Shows
Strength Going Into the
Final Stretch
DATE: September
25, 2020
_________________________________________________________________________
As President, Joe Biden will restore the soul of our nation, rebuild the backbone of our economy -- the middle class -- and unite our country. President Trump has failed Arizonans. From his mismanagement of the COVID-19 crisis and its economic fallout, to his attacks on pre-existing conditions coverage for 2.8 million Arizonans, President Trump has failed Arizona families.
Arizona is ready for a real leader -- and Joe Biden is the right candidate with the right message for voters and the right vision for the future. He cares about issues important to voters, like stopping the spread of COVID, the economy, and health care.
Our campaign is running a voter contact program focused on meeting voters across Arizona where they are. We are communicating not just with traditional Democratic voters, but organizing with veterans, LDS, and in traditionally Republican areas like the East Valley.
What’s at Stake in Arizona:
-
● COVID-19 has knocked us down, but we always come back stronger than ever. The only way we’re going to beat this is by taking care of one another — and we need Joe Biden as President to unite the country. He’ll bring the experience we need and help us build back better: from making sure everyone has access to health care, to rebuilding our economy so that it puts working people, families and small businesses first and giving everyone an equal opportunity.
-
● Donald Trump is suing to take away pre-existing conditions coverage for 2.8 million Arizonans. Joe Biden will protect and expand access to health care -- a fight that has taken on even stronger urgency in the wake of the Supreme Court seat vacancy.
- How
we win in Arizona:
- ● To win in
Arizona, a statewide
candidate from either party
must have strong support in
Maricopa County — but all
public polling indicates
Trump is well below 50%
there. Biden
for President Arizona is
not only winning in
Maricopa, but is
well-positioned to run up
large margins in Pima
County, the state’s second
largest county.
-
● As a reminder, Donald Trump failed to receive a majority of voters in the state when he won Arizona in 2016. His 2016 coalition only delivered him 48% of the vote statewide and his standing with many of the groups that built his win is significantly weakened after four years of failed leadership.
- ● Suburban
women
continue to strongly
oppose Trump and Arizona
Latinos are supporting
Joe Biden and Kamala Harris
by wide margins, both major
factors in Kyrsten Sinema’s
2018 win. Voters of
conscience, including members
of the Church of Latter-day
Saints
and military
veterans,
continue to move towards
Biden. Trump has been unable
to stop these trends — and
in many instances, he’s
worsened them with his
continued attacks on our
veterans and active duty
service members, Arizona
icon Senator John McCain,
communities of color and
women.
-
● The Biden Campaign and Mission for Arizona -- the DNC Coordinated Campaign in Arizona -- held meaningful conversations with hundreds of thousands of voters, and recruited more than 4,000 regular volunteers, and the campaign has enrolled 70,000 Arizonans on vote by mail. Nearly 15,000 volunteers have taken action with the campaign.
-
● The campaign conducts Spanish-language phone banks every day, and opened a virtual, bilingual virtual campaign office on the weekends for Spanish-language volunteers to text and call other Spanish speakers. As of last weekend, we’ve trained over 500 vols on Spanish language phone-banking.

- We
are building a strong and
diverse coalition.
- ● From Republicans
like Cindy McCain and
veterans
supporting Joe Biden,
to our tribal
outreach
and organizing program,
we are building a diverse
coalition in Arizona.
-
● The campaign has invested significant time and resources in Arizona to build relationships in the Latino community and scale-up an outreach operation that will win over Arizona Latinos, including the Arizona Latino Leadership Council which meets weekly with senior campaign leadership.
We are meeting the moment with effective organizing.
-
● Each week, hundreds of Arizona text volunteers have important conversations to enroll Arizonans on the Permanent Early Voter List (PEVL) and encourage people to volunteer with us. The campaign has enrolled 70,000 Arizonans on vote by mail.
-
● Arizona is part of a $280 million general election ad buy across television and digital, and Arizona voices like Steve Gomez, whose son Anthony’s care is made possible by the Affordable Care Act, to renowned Phoenix chef Silvana Salcido Esparza.
- We
are helping voters
understand how to cast their
ballot.
- ● Our Voter
Protection team includes
veterans of recent Arizona
elections — many of which
were decided after Election
Day. We are preparing to
make sure every Arizonan has
their vote counted this
fall.
-
● Our “First Week Voter” program will create energy and urgency for Arizonans to vote during the first week of PEVL to support Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
- Where
we go from here.
- ● Arizona has a
long history of
Vote-by-Mail, and we’ll
encourage our supporters to
vote early either through
mail or at an expanded
number of in-person voting
centers.
-
● Biden for President will soon be opening supply centers in Arizona to get more materials into volunteers and voters’ hands as momentum builds during Early Voting.
-
● We’re regularly hosting dynamic virtual events with incredible voices from around the country, including Kamala Harris and Jill Biden who both recently held events with Arizonans.
There are 39 days until November 3rd and Biden for President Arizona is going to use every single one of them to persuade and mobilize Arizonans to cast their ballot for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
