Female Announcer: He grew up hard on Chicago's South Side, sleeping on the floor, relying on welfare, going to struggling public schools.
He made it to Harvard, then joined the NAACP Legal Defense Fund.
Appointed by President Clinton to head the Civil Rights Division of
the Justice Department, Deval Patrick led the effort to stop the
burning of black churches and punish police misconduct.
He's one of only two African-Americans in history to be elected
governor.
For eight years, Deval turned hope into results. On his watch,
Massachusetts led the nation in health care coverage and student
achievement.
Patrick (clip):
We governed for everyone, everywhere, not just the people who voted for
us.
Female Announcer:
Now Deval Patrick is running for president because we need a leader who
understands what it's like when times are tough, a governor who's
delivered results and isn't part of the mess in Washington. Deval
Patrick, a proven leader who can win.
