BUSH'S LETTER TO PEROT AS PRINTED IN THE WASHINGTON POST, 6-24-92

Dec. 24, 1986
Dear Ross,

Tomorrow is Christmas; and today the gears here are shifting, at least for me. This is the time to count one's blessings - hence this letter.

You see I was very touched by your call(s) about my kids. They are all straight arrows, uninvolved in intrigue and yet the rumor mill links them; and it hurts them.

You understand all this.

What counts in life are honor, family, and friends.

We Bushes are very lucky. These troubled times will pass but caring friends make it easier.

Happy New Year - George

NEWSBRIEF
Ross Perot cleared the air about allegations of private investigations in interviews with the Washington Post and the Today Show, a press conference carried on CNN, and a Larry King Live appearance. In addition to producing a handwritten note from President Bush (printed above), Mr. Perot explained in detail the facts behind some of the distortions recently reported by the press. Mr. Perot blamed the "dirty tricks" department of the Republican party and asked the press to work with him to keep the debate focussed on the issues facing our country.

"I have never once investigated anything about the president's family. I was given unsolicited information which I took directly to him, father to father, and I said I had no idea if any of this is true but I just wanted you to know this is information people are passing around. He was very appreciative... wrote me a very nice warm letter thanking me."

- Mr. Perot, as quoted in the Washington Post

The Wall Street Journal described Perot's response as a "ten strike."

PEROT SCHEDULE
Mr. Perot is in Connecticut today attending a rally in Hartford to thank the volunteers of that state for their hard work on the petition drive.

CONGRATULATIONS
The enormous success of our volunteer rallies has left the press confused. As Mr. Perot has told them many times, most recently on last night's Larry King Live, "Never underestimate the ingenuity of the American people if they want a job done."

ARE THINGS TOUGH?

Mr. Perot appears to be enjoying his rebuttal of Republican attacks. When asked how things were going he said, "You guys don't know what tough is. This is Mickey Mouse tossed salad." He believes real heroes struggle against adversity everyday, not in politics, but at home and in their jobs through personal losses beyond their control.

Please take the time to distribute the Volunteer Update to the other members of the team. We are counting on each state to pass the news along.
