WHAT DOES JACK KEMP STAND FOR?
A HEALTHY FARM ECONOMY: Jack Kemp is the leader in Congress of efforts to reduce interest rates to alleviate farm debt and to stabilize exchange rates to allow farmers to compete in international markets. He has worked for market oriented agriculture policies and for a policy of forbearance, not foreclosure, in the Farm Credit System. Jack Kemp understands that new markets are the answer to the farm crisis.
PROTECTING SOCIAL SECURITY: Jack Kemp led the fight in 1985 to protect the cost of living increase Social Security recipients were entitled to from budget cutting schemes in the Senate. He will oppose any effort to cut the Social Security benefits retirees have worked hard for and earned. He supports legislation to remove the penalty on senior citizens who want to work after retirement. He believes Social Security is the bedrock of retirement security.
JOB CREATION AND ECONOMIC GROWTH: Jack Kemp has consistently worked for policies that will lead to a growing economy and full employment without inflation. These policies have already spurred the creation of 12 million new jobs. The Kemp-Roth legislation adopted in 1981 cut tax rates across the board by 25 %. The Kemp-Kasten tax reform legislation paved the way for further tax rate reductions. As a result 8 of every 10 American families will pay a top tax rate of only 15 %, and the personal exemption for every family member has been doubled to $2000.
FREE AND FAIR TRADE: Jack Kemp and Senator Phil Gramm are leading the fight for free trade in Congress to avoid a trade war in which American agriculture would be the first victim. The Kemp-Gramm American Trade, Growth, and Employment Protection Act will create free trade zones between the U.S. Canada and Mexico to expand trading opportunities and pressure other trading partners to lower their barriers to U.S. exports.
TRADITIONAL FAMILY VALUES: Jack Kemp joined Senator Chuck Grassley in the 99th Congress to introduce tough new laws against child pornography. He has sponsored legislation to combat drug use, including a proposal to require life in prison for dealers who sell deadly drugs to children. He has worked to strengthen both public and private schools and to increase parental rights and responsibilities in educating the young.
THE SANCTITY OF HUMAN LIFE: As President,Jack Kemp has pledged to appoint judges who uphold America'sJudeo-Christian values. He has compiled a 100% pro-life voting record during his 17 years in Congress. He is a sponsor of the Unity Human Life Amendment and author of the legislation to end federal funding for organizations that promote abortion under Title X.
