Jesse Jackson is a Winner for Labor

In 1984, with mínimal labor support, in the most cost effective campaign in history, Jesse Jackson won D.C., Louisiana, Virginia, South Carolina and Mississippi. He placed second in Texas, Arkansas, Kentucky, Maryland and a strong third in North Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, New York, Illinois, California and New Jersey.
Jesse Jackson won 61 Congressional Districts, 3.5 million votes and 465 Delegates to the Democratic Party Convention. He changed the parameters of debate during the '84 campaign by raising crucial labor issues that had not been raised in 50 years. He won the hearts, minds and imagination of millions of working people by his impassioned appeal to labor issues.
Today, Jesse Jackson has labor's support. When labor has called on him in the past three years, Jesse Jackson has been there. He has walked the picket lines of CWA, AFGE, 1199, PATCO, UFCW, Teamsters, Flight Attendants, AFSCME, UMWA, UAW and USWA. He has rallied with all the major unions. He has spoken at International and Local union forums, conferences and conventions. He has mobilized millions of Americans for labor's cause with his media presence and community connections throughout America and the world.
Jesse Jackson is a winner on labor issues. He has negotiated strike settlements with teachers in St. Louis, contract disputes with fire fighters in Chicago, and affirmative action plans with employers for unions. He has organized workers into unions and organized unions into community coalitions. He is the strongest candidate in the South where The Southern Super-Tuesday will be the main event in the 88 Primaries. He has the vision, compassion, experience and the numbers to win the Democratic Party nomination and take working men and women's concerns into the White House.
Labor needs a leader in 1988 who has felt splinters in his hands from carrying picket signs. Labor needs a leader in 1988 who will stand with labor, not shy away. Labor needs a leader in 1988 who knows you can't run with the foxes and then try to hunt with the hounds. Labor needs Jesse Jackson.
A man of proven intellect on international affairs. A man of proven abilities to fight for labor. A man who stands tall for America's future for Jobs with Justice in a peaceful world. That man, that winner, is Jesse Jackson.

"If we must fight, let us fight together at the farm auction, where farmers are driven off their land with no place to go. If we must fight, let us fight together at the shipyard against goods made by slave labor. If we must fight, let us fight together at the emergency room where people are dying because they don't have a yellow or green card while beds are waiting for the rich to get sick. Let us fight together at the site of some drug exchange or some missile site where money and morals are being misappropriated. Let us fight black and white, Asian, Hispanic, Native American together at the plant gate for Jobs, Justice and Dignity."
—Jesse L. Jackson

Jesse Jackson Stands With You!
When Jesse Jackson calls on corporate America and public officials to "Invest in America," he's standing with you. He says that America's vast wealth, resources, talent, energy and untapped labor power can be used to create a society where unemployment does not exist and people live in one nation with liberty and justice for all.
Jesse Jackson says the "economic violence" against workers whose plants have closed on them should be illegal. Jesse Jackson says the "economic violence" against farmers and farm communities shattered by foreclosures is immoral and must be stopped. Jesse Jackson says that our tax dollars should be used to build schools, provide scholarships, pay teachers adequately and create the best educational system in the world, not be spent on funding the contras and propping up apartheid. He says drugs, teen pregnancy and AIDS can be eliminated if our priorities are reversed and we care more about the human race and less about the arms race.
Jesse Jackson went to Syria and brought back hostage Lt. Robert Goodman and didn't trade any arms or weapons. He went to Cuba and brought back 48 Cuban and Cuban-American prisoners and took Fidel Castro to church for the first time in 30 years. As a disciple of Dr. Martín Luther King, Jr., he has lived a life of compassionate, non-violent social change in defense of ali Americans in time of need to help make America be ali it can be. And be proud of what it stands for.     Jesse Jackson stands for what is best in America. He stands with you.
He has forged a coalition of Black, White, Hispanic, Asían and Native Americans under his Rainbow Flag that has changed the face of American politics. He has registered millions of new voters and energized them into the political process which helped to clip Reagan's coatails in '84 and return the Senate to Democratic control in '86. He has redefined the parameters of debate on labor issues, economic policy and international affairs. He talks as easily with Kings, Queens, Popes and Presidents as he does with the homeless and the unemployed. He is truly a proven leader for all seasons and ali people.
As a devoted father of five children and husband to Jacqueline of 25 years, he understands family values, community ties and world-wide responsibilities. The 1988 campaign offers America's working men and women and their families a unique opportunity to support a candidate truly in step with America and its hopes and needs, its values and future.
