ENVIRONMENTAL VISION... '88
"It's clear that the environmental crisis has no boundaries. All of us on this spaceship earth are victims of chemical warfare..acid rain...toxic wastes...dioxin...ozone depletion...pesticides...it's chemical warfare and it must end. The environment is a national security issue."
"Changing the way we produce goods and food can create economic benefits as well as environmental ones. Manufacturing less polluting, more fuel-efficient cars could revitalize the auto industry. New factories building cogenerators, solar collectors and photovoltaic cells would create new industries.
Transforming farming would reduce the risk of contaminated food and water, while lessening the farmer's need for costly chemicals."
Global Cooperation:
Create a Pan American Energy and Environmental Security Alliance
Enforce the Marine Mammal Protection and Endangered Species Acts
Provide leadership in global programs against acid rain and ozone depletion
International Environmental Summit
End the race to destruction and turn our scientists and labs away from the arms race toward solving our environmental and energy problems
" ... to transform our society into one in which people live in true harmony - harmony among nations, harmony among the races of humankind, and harmony with nature."
Stop toxic pollution of our air, soil, and water, and protect our workers at their jobs from hazardous chemicals by aggressively enforcing the nation's toxic regulations.
Mandate the reuse of resources and chemicals to stop the profligate waste and eliminate contaminated waste streams into our environment.
Conservation > Jobs > Recycling > Restoration > Preservation > Global Cooperation
Clean up and eliminate toxic waste in our air, water, and soil. Use a Civilian Conservation Corps to restore and repair the environment.
"To prevent another Three Mile Island or Chernobyl, and to eliminate nuclear waste, we should begin now to phase out nuclear power."
Public Land Resources
We will oppose any attempt to weaken the protection of national parks, refuges, and forests. Our coastal zones and public lands must receive increased funds to improve their protection and management. Our environmental ethics must insure the preservation of our earth.
Oceans and Oil
"A Jackson administration will end lease sale 91. There will be no drilling for oil on the North Coast under a Jackson presidency. That is my promise to you today My administration will strongly support Congresswoman Barbara Boxer's and Senator Alan Cranston's efforts to create an Ocean Sanctuary for the coast of California."

loss of work ... " "Changing the way we produce goods and food can create economic benefits as well as environmental ones. "lt requires bold leadership that proposes solutions as big as the problems ... "
"We need an environmental and economic policy that makes sense. To restore and preserve the environment... We need a shift in values ....We will either reduce, reuse, recycle and restore - or we will perish."
"There is no greater threat to our environment, to all the great goals ... than the threat of annihilation by nuclear death. The next President ... has no greater responsibility, no greater mandate, than to end that threat for all time and to turn our scientists, engineers, and research labs ... to discover the solutions to our many environmental threats."
