DECEMBER First
GEPHARDT for PRESIDENT
Our chance to make history.

On December 1st, Dick Gephardt's supporters all across America get a special opportunity. A chance to put aside our daily routine for two hours. And put our country first, by doing our part to help elect the next President of the United States.
That night, thousands of Dick's supporters and friends will get together in living rooms from coast-to-coast.
Like most Americans, we'll get a chance to watch the first network-televised presidential debate of the 1988 campaign. (Live on NBC from the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., 8 to 10 p.m. Central, 9 to 11 p.m. Eastern, Mountain and Pacific.)
Make history watching TV?
And thanks to the America First December First program, we'II get to do more than watch history in the making. We'll be making history while watching the debate.
This program gives every friend of Dick Gephardt a chance to make a difference in the 1988 campaign at a critical time.
Over a thousand supporters will host debate-watching parties in their homes to help raise grassroots funds for Dick Gephardt.
Our goal is to raise $250 at each party. For example, ten friends and neighbors giving $25 each. Or twenty-five giving $10.
That adds up to $250,000 for the Gephardt campaign; and that's not all.
Make a forgotten contribution really count.
The federal government matches small contributions to presidential candidates dollar-for-dollar. lt uses the money we've contributed each year by checking the box on our tax return earmarking $1 for the Presidential Election Campaign Fund.
Look at it this way. The America First December First program gives us a chance to make sure Dick Gephardt gets his share of the matching funds we've already contributed to the presidential candidates by checking that box the last four years.
And, the money couldn't come at a more critical time. Matching funds will be distributed one month after the America First parties, on January 1, 1988. Just before the crucial first-in-the-nation lowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary.
But America First December First means even more than money. It means bringing together more than 15,000 Americans concemed about the future direction of their country. Americans willing to get involved as volunteers and contributors in their own communities.
We'll make it easy on you.
To be part of history takes a little work. But you'll have a lot of help. Just follow these easy steps.
One. Fill out, tear off and mail back the postage-paid America First Host Reply Card attached.
Two. Watch your mail for your America First Invitation Kit. Follow the simple, step-by-step instructions to start organizing your party. Your kit will include printed invitations for you to fill out and mail to your friends and neighbors.
Three. Use your America First Party Kit to add to the excitement. It will arrive just before Thanksgiving, and will contain bumperstickers, buttons, issue papers and a checklist of last-minute things-to-do to make your party a complete success.
That's all there is to it. Except to watch the debate at home December 1st with your friends and neighbors. And make history while you're at it.

America First December First Party Host Reply Card

I'll host an America First debate-watching and fundraising party December 1. Rush my Invitation Kit so I can get started right away.
I can't host a party, but here's my check to the Gephardt for President Committee to help make this grassroots fundraising program a big success.
I'll ask five friends to host parties December 1.

I challenge Americans to think about not only what's good for them, but what's right for their country.
—Dick Gephardt
