In the last seven years, the Republicans have cut aid to education by 16 percent.
Mike Dukakis and Lloyd Bentsen will end the cuts, build a National Teaching Excellence Fund, rebuild the National Teaching Corps – a domestic Peace Corps for teaching – and create a college opportunity fund that guarantees college tuition for every qualified student.
Stop Toxic Polluters And Save Our Coast.
The Republicans are pushing hard for offshore drilling, while pulling back on pollution enforcement.
Mlke Dukakis calls for raising the EPA to cabinet-level status, and lowering the boom on toxic polluters. He'II stop the sale of offshore drilling leases on the California coast, commit federal resources to cleaning up America's toxic waste sites, and ban ocean dumping of sewage by 1991.

Mike Dukakis will use the President's power to get tough on unfair trade, to stop the Federal Reserve Board from driving up interest rates, and to lower our staggering deficits in trade.
He will fight for basic health care for every citizen, training and retraining for American workers, affordable housing for our families, and an end to the shame of homelessness.
Start A Real War On Drugs
Mike Dukakis will lead by example. He'II shut down White House dealings with drug-running dictators. And appoint an Anti-Drug Czar to lead a National Alliance Against Drugs.
He'II cut off foreign aid to governments that refuse to work with us in the war on drugs. And double the number of enforcement officers protecting our boarders.
Secure The Future For Older Americans
Mike Dukakis knows that Social Security is a basic right – which is why his support for the system includes cost-of-living increases.
As President, he'II work to provide health insurance for the 40 million Americans who don't have it. And require Medicare to pay for home health services that are already covered by law.
He'II create a National Partnership for Affordable Housing, and strictly enforce the Age Discrimination in Employment Act.
Stand Up For Every American's Rights.
The Republicans' opposition to equal pay for women, and full civil rights for every citizen will end the day Mike Dukakis takes office.
As President, he'II make an unyielding commitment to equal opportunity, social justice, and affirmative action. He'II start a national day care partnership with employers and unions across the country. And fight for fair parental leaves.
And he'II appoint Supreme Court Justices who will defend equal rights instead of rolling back social progress.
Revitalize Rural Communities.
The Dukakis/Bentsen team knows that farmers need fair prices that cover the cost of production and give them decent return on their investment.
Their farm policy will combine supply management and reasonable price supports to help farmers make a living from the land.
