Dukakis | Bentsen On Older Americans.

"Every American, no matter who they are, where they come from, or how old they are, should have the opportunity to contribute to and participate in the future of our country. We are not a nation of separate generations. We are one people, one community."

Stop the threat. For too long, we've had an Administration that has threatened the foundation of our Social Security system by repeatedly proposing cuts in funding and caps on cost-ofliving adjustments. Now we have a Republican candidate who has voted against Social Security cost-of-living increases. Mike Dukakis and Lloyd Bentsen believe that providing and protecting opportunity for older Americans demands concrete action, not just words. They'll set national priorities and stick to them.

Strong Social Security.
Mike Dukakis and Lloyd Bentsen know that Social Security is a basic right of every citizen. That's why they staunchly support a strong Social Security system that includes cost-of-living increases.

Good health care.
As Governor of his state, Mike Dukakis fought and won the nation's first universal health care law. As President, he'll work to provide health insurance for the 40 million Americans who don't have it.

Long-term care. Mike Dukakis will require Medicare to pay for home health services already covered by law. He'll provide support to families who care for relatives at home, and he'll work to develop affordable and quality long-term care services.

Decent and affordable housing. Mike Dukakis and Lloyd Bentsen want to insure that older Americans are able to keep the homes they worked so hard to own and maintain. They'll create a National Partnership for Affordable Housing.

A safe place to live. Mike Dukakis believes that Americans have the right to enjoy their neighborhoods in peace. That's why, in three terms as a chief executive, he's expanded state police and implemented tough anti-drug policies.

Independent and active lives. Mike Dukakis will strictly enforce the Age Discrimination in Employment Act and provide matching funds to corporations that seek the opportunity to train and hire older workers.

The Dukakis/Bentsen Record

• As Governor, Mike Dukakis won passage of the nation's first universal health care plan.

• Mike Dukakis abolished the retirement age in Massachusetts before Congress acted.

• Mike Dukakis built the nation's most extensive home health care network.

• Lloyd Bentsen, as Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, led the fight for passage of the landmark Catastrophic Health Care bill.

Senator Bentsen cosponsored the Older Americans Act, which makes comprehensive nutrition, health screening, employment and transportation services available to millions of older Americans.

Keep America's promise. Vote Dukakis/Bentsen.
