Vote to Fight AIDS

" .. I WANT OUR SCIENTISTS TO USE THEIR GREAT GIFTS NOT TO DESTROY LIFE BUT TO PRESERVE IT ... TO WAGE WAR ON AIDS - THE SINGLE MOST SERIOUS THREAT TO THE PUBLIC HEALTH WE HAVE FACED IN OUR LIFETIME AND A DISEASE THAT MUST BE CONQUERED."    MIKE DUKAKIS

MEETING THE CHALLENGE

AIDS presents America with one of the greatest challenges of our lifetime.

• It will challenge our medical and technical skills.
• It will challenge our financial and administrative resources.
• And, equally important, it will challenge our compassion and humanity.

EDUCATION
Education to prevent infection is the best defense we now have against the AIDS virus. It is intolerable that anyone should die of ignorance.

• We need to teach everyone about the dangers of AIDS.
• We need to provide everyone with information to protect themselves from infection.

RESEARCH AND PUBLIC HEALTH

The response to the AIDS epidemic revealed serious flaws in the way we fund and facilitate medical research and public health maintenance.

• The public health must never again be held hostage by ideologues or budget analysts.
• Bureaucratic obstacles and inertia should never defeat us.
• Basic research programs, grant reviews, and drug evaluations must reflect the urgency of the situation.

COUNSELING AND TESTING

To encourage voluntary counseling and testing ...

• We must protect people from breach of confidentiality and discrimination based on irrational fear of contagion.
• Federal legislation which provides these protections must be supported.

AS PRESIDENT, MIKE DUKAKIS WILL PROVIDE THE LEADERSHIP AND RESOURCES TO MEET THE AIDS CRISIS.
WITH MIKE DUKAKIS, WE WILL HAVE A NATIONAL STRATEGIC PLAN TO GUIDE US IN THE WAR ON AIDS AND A PRESIDENT LEADING THE CHARGE.

Unless you vote Democrat, Nothing will change

The Republicans have...

• Ignored recommendations of the Surgeon General's report on AIDS, and then ignored their own Commissions' report.

• Continually opposed additional funding for AIDS research.

• Excluded people with AIDS from the same anti-discrimination protections afforded other disabled or sick people.

• Ignored the repeated requests to accelerate the testing and release of promising drugs and therapies.

• Turned to surrogates like Rev. Jerry Falwell, Congressman Bill Dannemeyer and Pat Robertson to articulate their view on AIDS.

• Refused to deal with social service issues for people with AIDS.

We need your help to elect a President committed to helping us.
Please volunteer today to register voters, make phone calls, distribute literature, and work on election day.
