An Open Letter To Outdoor Enthusiasts

I am a great believer in what fishing, hunting and camping do for the spirit of this country. For me and for many Americans, outdoor recreation isn't a luxury but a necessity. It's the stuff that recharges our batteries and keeps us going-both mentally
and physically.

Since my days as a youngster, the outdoors has been very much a part of my life. I've learned I must make time for recreation by fitting it in whenever I can and wherever I am. Just like the long haul truck driver, the office worker, the small independent business person or those managing homes and raising families: we all must balance the demands and responsibilities of job and family with the need for
outdoor activities.

The United States has a stake in meeting the outdoor needs of its citizens. Fortunately, we have great physical and social assets to help meet those needs. I am committed to ensuring that our public lands, national parks, and national forests are used effectively, so that all Americans can experience and enjoy the outdoor spirit on a regular basis.

Sincerely,

George Bush
