WHY WALTER MONDALE WILL BEAT RONALD REAGAN IN 1984:

*    MONDALE'S BROAD-BASED NATIONAL SUPPORT

*    MONDALE'S EXPERIENCE

*    MONDALE'S PERSONAL AND POLITICAL VALUES

BROAD NATIONAL SUPPORT:

     Walter Mondale is such a clear and positive alternative to Ronald Reagan that no match-up between a Democrat and a Republican would result in a greater turnout of Democratic voters than Mondale versus Reagan. Mondale's campaign spotlights those issues which will motivate bread numbers of Democrats to go to the polls -issues which Mondale has sought out throughout his political career -- including excellence in education, nuclear arms control, women's rights, and a strong and secure economy for the future.

     Walter Mondale is the only Democrat who can unite the Democratic Party, stand up for its principles, get out the vote and defeat Ronald Reagan in 1984. And recognition of these facts is rapidly spreading among Democrats everywhere: Mondale has strong support from working men and women and from labor organizations, from senior citizens, from teachers and college students, from family farmers and small business owners, from environmentalists and from political leaders in every state1of the Union.

     Women of all ages and aspirations -- whose concerns have been scorned by Ronald Reagan -- are working to help Walter Mondale become President. So are Blacks and Hispanics and other minorities who realize that the Reagan Administration scoffs at their needs. Indeed, Mondale's appeal -- and Reagan's record -- will bring to the polls in 1984 record numbers of Democratic voters who have never or seldom voted before.

     Walter Mondale already is bringing back to the Democratic Party the support from traditionally Democratic sources which drifted over to Ronald Reagan in 1980 -- now that the American people really know what Ronald Reagan stands for. And Mondale has assembled the first-rate professional campaign organization to foster and coordinate that support.

EXPERIENCE:

     Walter Mondale is the only Democrat who can strip away from Ronald Reagan the one claim which an incumbent President invariably makes -- that only he has the experience necessary to run the country. Walter Mondale simply is more experienced in foreign policy and in running the Federal Government more so than any other recent candidate for the Presidency.

     Walter Mondale's experience as Vice President of the United States, as U.S. Senator for 12 years, and as Minnesota Attorney General place him far ahead of Reagan in knowing how to work constructively through government to improve people's lives. Walter Mondale knows the American people -- and the American people know Walter Mondale.

     Walter Mondale successfully handled more critical legislative and foreign policy challenges than any Vice President in American history. For four years he served on the National Security Council and was directly involved on a daily basis in solving the problems which confronted the President and his advisers. And Walter Mondale has been involved either in the negotiation or the ratification of every major nuclear arms limitation agreement that America has entered into in the past 20 years.

     Unlike Ronald Reagan, Walter Mondale knows our Government, he knows and respects the Congress of the United States and the legislative process, he knows our allies around the world -- and he knows our enemies. And Walter Mondale knows that he is ready to take on the toughest job in the world after we help him take it away from Ronald Reagan.

PERSONAL AND POLITICAL VALUES:

     Ronald Reagan is grossly out of step with the traditional values of America. Mondale's basic values are much more in line with those of the American people. He has maintained a lifelong commitment to the principles of fairness, decency and justice for all Americans -- while Reagan's heartless policies have favored the wealthy and slashed programs to aid and educate those of us in need.

     Walter Mondale grew up with the family values of small-town rural America. His father was a minister and his mother taught music; together, they taught him to speak the truth, to value hard work, to respect our country and its laws -- and to help other people. After serving in the U.S. Army, Mondale went on to earn a law degree at the University of Minnesota on the G.I. Bill.

     True to his values, Mondale worked as a U.S. Senator to improve education for all children, and to strengthen families with nutrition programs and day care centers. He fought for senior citizens and was one of the original sponsors of Medicare. He designed the Women's Educational Equity Act which transformed every woman's right to be free from educational discrimination into federally funded programs to expand women's educational opportunities.

     Mondale also fought for fairness and equity in our tax laws. And he fought for passage of the Equal Rights Amendment and was a cosponsor of the Clean Air Act of 1970 and the Water Pollution Act of 1972.

     In the U.S. Senate, Mondale opposed the Nixon plan to junk the ABM Treaty and to put multiple warheads on nuclear missiles. And shortly before becoming Vice President, he was a key author of the first Senate resolution to stop the proliferation of nuclear weapons.

     But Ronald Reagan has worked hard to reverse this progress. He has twisted our tax laws and compromised our environmental quality. Reagan has escalated the nuclear arms race and alarmed our allies with reckless talk of firing nuclear warning shots and winning an all-out arms race.

     Walter Mondale's campaign embodies the future of America. His career has been dedicated to nurturing our youth and making America secure for the future. Ronald Reagan's policies hark back to the past and they undermine the security of America's future.

     The choice between Mondale and Reagan in 1984 could not be clearer. And that's why Ronald Reagan's first term will be his last.
