CRANSTON

"Our challenge as Democrats is to restore national confidence in government; to find creative ways to solve economic problems and build lasting international peace; to represent all of the people all of the time; to replace despair with hope, frustration with opportunity...."

ALAN CRANSTON

ALAN CRANSTON:
THE MAN
"One person in the right place at the right time can change history for the better...."

Born in Palo Alto, California, Alan Cranston has an unparalleled record of personal achievement.

He founded the California Democratic Council and led the fight to revitalize the California Democratic Party. He was the first Democrat in 72 years to be elected Controller of the State of California. He served two terms, eaming widespread praise for modernising state fiscal practices.

Alan Cranston was first elected to the United States Senate in 1968. In 1980 he became the first Democratic U.S. Senator in California history to be elected to a third term–outpolling President Reagan by 200,000 votes on the California ballot. In the Senate he has been unanimously elected four times Democratic Whip–the first Democrat in 50 years to achieve that distinction.

Alan Cranston knows how to listen, how to work with people, how to get things done. That's why the Capitol Hill Press Corps has rated Senator Cranston "the best Democratic Senator."

ALAN CRANSTON:
COURAGEOUS LEADERSHIP
"Our aim must be the total abolition of nuclear weapons. We must banish these weapons from the face of the earth...."

Time and again, Alan Cranston has demonstrated his honesty, integrity and willingness to tackle tough issues–without regard for personal political
consequences.

He was one of the first senators to oppose the war in Vietnam. He helped found the nuclear freeze movement and was the first senator to endorse the California freeze initiative. He led the fight fo the SALT treaties and against the MX missile system.

Senator Cranston's stands on domestic issues have been equally bold. Because of his support of human rights, the ERA and women's issues, he was targeted for defeat by NCPAC. He has fought the Reagan-Watt-Gorsuch assault on our natural resources and our environment. He has been an outstanding advocate for labor and was an early supporter of the United Farm Workers. He has been a leader in the development of a stronger educational system that will prepare young people for the challenges of our technological future.

Senator Cranston is deeply committed to forging a partnership among business, labor, government and education to solve our economic problems and get people back to work. He is continuing his fight to preserve the dignity of older Americans and to keep our Social Security system solvent.

Alan Cranston: a consistent voice for sanity, for freedom, for peace.

ALAN CRANSTON:
HE COULD BE OUR NEXT GREAT PRESIDENT
"With the right leadership we CAN solve our economic problems; we CAN build a lasting peace; we CAN meet the challenges of tomorrow...."

From Maine to Mississippi, New Hampshire to New Mexico, California to Connecticut, people are changing the way they evaluate candidates for office. They are looking for common sense, compassion and competence in their leaders–not just Hollywood charisma. They demand proof that a candidate, once elected, will be effective in office.

Alan Cranston is supported by many of the county and city Democratic chairpersons in New Hampshire. He has solid grass-roots organizations working in a dozen key primary states. From the start of the campaign, his proven ability to win in California makes him one of the most potent candidates for President in the 1984 election.

People throughout the nation are supporting Alan Cranston for President–not only because of what he says, but because of what he has shown he can do.

Alan Cranston. He could be our next great President.
