Nov. 14, 2018 - Incoming members
of the U.S. House of
Representatives gathered for the freshman class photo on a chilly but
clear day in front of the Capitol. The incoming members are in
town for two weeks of orientation; the 116th Congress is scheduled to
meet starting Jan. 3, 2019. Democrat will have control of the
House for the first time since 2010, although the size of their
majority is not yet certain. A total of nine House races are yet
to be called (CA-39, CA-45, GA-7, ME-2, NJ-3, NY-22, NY-27, TX-3 and
UT-4), but thus far the freshman class includes 56 Democrats and 31
Republicans. It also includes at least 34 women (33 Democrats and
1 Republican), a record. Four other women are in races yet to be
called (3 Democrats and 1 Republican).
