DON'T DRINK THE WATER

Newark and Milltown water supplies are above "action level" of lead contamination!

Data posted July 30, 2017, on the NJ Department. of Environmental Protection's Water Watch website reveals an urgent toxic water problem due to lead in Newark's drinking water.

The state of NJ should have declared a public health emergency immediately. As of mid-August, Democrats and Republicans remained silent.

The small Middlesex County town of Milltown demonstrates similar toxicity in tap water to that of Newark.

Flushing water out can reduce lead but will not remove it. Lead will not change the appearance or smell of your water.

The Kaper-Dale/Durden Campaign for Governor demands the government of NJ immediately:

1.    In critical towns, distribute leadreduction filters certified by NSF/ANSI (an independent organization that tests water filters to confirm they function properly to remove 99% of lead);

2.    Educate residents regarding the tap water crisis and the use and care of filters,

3.    If necessary distribute bottled water until filters are in place.

In Newark, of 129 residential water taps sampled, 29 showed more than 15 parts per billion (ppb), the "federal action level" on lead. The Newark data also indicates that at least 47% of its 296,000 inhabitants are consuming dangerous levels of lead (more than 5 ppb) when they drink from their tap.

The fact that Milltown confronts similar water hazards to Newark, indicates the crisis does not only affect urban centers. Any water systems built prior to the 1987 ban on the use of lead are at risk.

An informal investigation by environmental scientist and Green Party candidate for Assembly in District 18, Sean Stratton, also indicates water utilities do not always comply with regulations such as periodic sampling from the same taps over time.

Thus, for example, after 2004 reporting for New Brunswick showed crisis levels, later periods showed improvement. But this could simply be due to inappropriate testing methodology (such as changing the homes sampled) rather than the removal of lead water lines and lead solder.

Effects of lead in water

Physical and behavioral effects of lead occur with lower levels of exposure in unborn and young children than in adults. A level of lead that would have little effect on an adult can have a significant effect on a child. Low levels of exposure for children has been linked to damage to the central and peripheral nervous system, learning disabilities, stunted growth, impaired hearing, and impaired formation and function of blood cells.

The Kaper-Dale/Durden administration will create a public bank that will make fixing our water infrastructure affordable.

Palm Card, 3 3/4" x 8 1/4"

In my career as pastor of the Reformed Church of Highland Park, I have worked as a community organizer, social entrepreneur and seeker of justice. I have opened seven non-profit organizations, including the global coffee Grace, a multicultural refugee-led restaurant; A reconstruction effort after Hurricane Sandy; and a housing and advocacy Corporation for young people with too much age for foster care and homeless veterans. My efforts also promote the rights of immigrants, the imprisoned, the mentally impaired and those that the dominant powers keep down.

I running for governor of New Jersey with the Green Party because:

In 2013:
•     60 Democratic officials abandoned their own nominee, Barbara Buono, who challenged to corruption, and publicly backed Christie for re-election
•     61% of New Jersey registered voters stayed home during the election of the 2013

In 2017:
•    66% of registered voters say they would consider voting for an independent candidate.
I'm that candidate.

A State bank with citizen supervision will ensure that our money stays here in New Jersey, allowing us to create ten times our assets in credit, lending for infrastructure projects that create jobs and give student loans at nominal interest rates.

Progressive taxes
I will add new tax scales for people who earn more than $500,000. The incredibly wealthy must put on their fair share.

AN INDEPENDENT VOICE FOR TRANSFORMATION
THROUGH LOVE, JUSTICE, OPPORTUNITY, & EQUALITY

GREEN PARTY OF NEW JERSEY

In my 15-year career as a pastor-a calling that I believe holds within its definition community organizer, social entrepreneur and justice seeker-my work has been guided by a belief that society is only as good as the life it provides for its most vulnerable citizens. Accordingly, we should all do what we can to put the last first. In my church, and with interfaith partners and other people of good will, I've worked hard to start with the last, creating affordable housing, an after school program, a fair trade store, a re-entry program, Hurricane Sandy relief program, a church-based mental health program, an asylee support program and a refugee resettlement organization.

I've also not been afraid to stand up for human rights when they are violated in our state, nation and world. I've spoken out for LGBT rights, against Islamophobia, against endless war, against solitary confinement, for immigration reform and for responsible environmental policies.

I believe a more beautifl communal and individual life is possible for all of us, if we start with the last. Instead of a government that trickles down resources from above let"s create a mighty stream of justice and peace that starts at the bottom, serving those most vulnerable, and that then sweeps upward, fully including the middle class.

SETH'S VISION FOR NEW JERSEY

Appoint independent prosecutors to investigate police shootings.

EVERYONE VOTES: no disenfranchisement for parolees or the incarcerated.

Protect public schools, enable them to be improved and better funded. There should be a moratorium on charter schools.

Expand public transportation.

Help incarcerated parents provide for their children, give them decent work with fair wages while incarcerated; Jail should be punishment for one, not economic despair for entire families.

Make renewable energy a state priority.

All religions should be respected, with a special place of honor for Islam in response to anti-Muslim bigotry.

Create new jobs that build our "green" infrastructure.

Clean up toxic sites.

Mandate a fair minimum wage in the state constitution.

Protect LGBT rights.

Issue driver's licenses to undocumented immigrants: It's safer for all of us.

Defend the rights to organize unions and collective bargaining.

Atlantic City, or any municipality, should NEVER be taken over by state government.

Millions of dollars should be added to the Housing Trust Fund for new affordable housing development.

lhcrease housing vouchers; make housing a real possibility for the lowest income families in every town.

Ex-offenders should not be blocked from employment.
