Overview
Three governorships were at stake, two held by
Republicans and one by a Democrat. Democrats achieved a
pick up in Kentucky, where Andy Beshear defeated
incumbent Gov. Matt Bevin and held on to Louisiana,
where Gov. John Bel Edwards was elected to a second
term.
Republicans held on to the open seat in Mississippi,
where Gov. Phil Bryant was term limited. These
results were part of a successful off-year cycle for
Democrats (1,
2),
while
President Trump, who rallied with the Republican
candidates in all three states, lost two of
three. Notice that the lit. pieces of all three
candidates have a mention or photo of Trump. |
