 KEEPING VIRGINIANS SAFE: Tim has fought to raise the pay for our military. And he has repeatedly voted to increase funding for our defense, securing nearly $400 million to invest in Virginia's military bases and cosponsoring successful legislation to increase the size of the Navy fleet to 355 ships. Tim is also fighting to reduce gang violence on our streets and keep guns out of the hands of those on the terrorist watch list.

INCREASING ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE: Tim believes everyone should have access to quality, affordable health care. His plan, Medicare X, would give all Americans the option to buy into a plan similar to Medicare so everyone has a real choice in their health care. Tim will continue to fight any attempt to limit access to health care for people with pre-existing conditions.

CREATING NEW JOBS: Tim is focused on making sure that all Virginians have access to a good job with good wages. His first bill was the Troop Talent Act, which helps service members transition to civilian careers. He'll fight to raise the minimum wage, give businesses incentives to hire new workers, and expand access to job training.

IMPROVING SCHOOLS AND EXPANDING TECHNICAL EDUCATION: Tim believes the best path to success is a good education. That' s why he's introduced legislation to use Pell Grants for short-term job training programs. And he'll push for greater support for our public schools, increase access to early childhood education, and promote career and technical education.

Tim Kaine grew up in a close-knit family. His dad ran an ironworking shop, where Tim learned a trade and the value of hard work. Then he went to Honduras as a missionary and taught kids carpentry and welding.

PROTECTING WOMEN'S RIGHTS: Tim believes women should be able to make their own health care decisions. He'II continue fighting for equal pay for equal work, and he's sponsored legislation to prevent sexual assault and harassment in our high schools and colleges.

REDUCING GUN VIOLENCE: Tim supports commonsense solutions to keep our children and communities safe. As Governor during the Virginia Tech shooting, Tim brought Republicans and Democrats together to strengthen mental health services. He supports strengthening background checks and a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.
