NE Secretary of State

Notes: Sen. Deb Fischer (R), seeking a second term, faced Jane Raybould (D), a Lincoln city councilwoman, and Jim Schultz (L).

Fischer lives on the family cattle ranch outside of Valentine; she previously served in the Legislature.  Raybould's bio notes she is "a fourth generation Nebraskan ...[who] helps run the grocery business he parents started more than 53 years ago."  She was the party's nominee for lieutenant governor in 2014.

The NRSC described Raybould as "a Bernie-liberal who lived and worked in Washington, D.C. for more than 20 years. A DC insider, Raybould worked for the District’s building industry association for 16 years."  In  campaign ad from September, Raybould described Fischer  as "part of the problem."  She stated, "
Senator Fischer votes with her own party 98% of the time. She's taken millions of dollars from special interests and her own net worth increased from 300,000 to over 4 million since getting elected."

The two major party candidates met on Aug. 27 in a World-Herald/KMTV debate at the Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island (>).  Fischer carried every county except Lancaster and Douglas.

According to Open Secrets (>), the Fischer campaign outspent the Raybould campaign by $6.0 million to $2.1 million.
