A lifelong
North Dakotan, Heidi has a proven
track record of reaching across the aisle in the U.S. Senate and
rising abouve Washington partisan infighting to deliver real results
for hardworking North Dakotans.
INSIDE: HEIDI ON THE ISSUES
Compare Heidi Heitkamp And Kevin Cramer On The Issues Facing North
Dakotans
STRONG AND SAFE COMMUNITIES
Since
day one, Heidi Heitkamp has been working across the aisle on solutions
both sides can agree on to reduce health care costs and improve access
for North Dakota families, seniors, and veterans–no matter where they
live. Heidi is working to shut down human trafficking websites and led
the fight to impose tougher penalties for sex trafficking.

Kevin
Cramer put his political interests first when he voted to eliminate
health care protections for 300,000 North Dakotans with pre-existing
conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, and even
cancer.
|
FIGHTING FOR VETERANS
After
years of veterans having to drive hours across the state to get to a
veterans hospital, Heidi secured funding to successfully bring a Vet
Health Care Center to Grand Forks, making it easier for veterans to
receive care closer to their homes. She's held the VA accountable for
chronic issues impacting veterans care and pushed for programs that
will keep North Dakota veterans more connected to the employment and
health care resources they deserve.

|
Kevin
Cramer voted against veterans when he voted for a bill to cap tuition
assistance under the GI Bill, which would have helped students enrolled
at UND's School of Aerospace Sciences. He even voted against increasing
the number of desperately needed staff who process insurance claims for
veterans.
|
STANDING UP FOR SENIORS
Heidi
is relentless when it comes to protecting Medicare and Social Security.
She also believes retirees are entitled to every nickel of the pensions
they paid into their entire careers. That's why as your U.S. Senator
she has fought hard, and will continue to do so, against any cuts to
these important lifelines our seniors depend on.
|
|
Kevin
Cramer voted to allow insurers to impose what
the AARP labeled an "Age Tax'' on North Dakotans age 50-64, potentially
charging them up to five times as much as younger consumers. Even
worse, he supports Social Security privatization, which would undermine
the guaranteed benefit, and supported changes to Medicare that would
raise the cost of health care for seniors.

Heidi
FOR NORTH DAKOTA
A lifelong North Dakotan, Heidi
grew up alongside her six brothers and sisters in the small, rural town
of Mantador. Raised by a school-cook and janitor mom and a dad whose
jobs ranged from volunteer firefighter to seasonal construction worker,
Heidi was taught the values of hard work and service to her community
from a young age. And she has carried those values with her as she
represents North Dakota in the U.S. Senate – helping to write and pass
a strong Farm Bill, protect access to quality health care for seniors,
veterans and rural residents, strengthen our state's energy industry,
and pave a viable path forward for coal.
Heidi knows hardworking North Dakota families because she was born and
raised in a hardworking North Dakota family. Her deep love of North
Dakota and the folks who call this state home is what drives her –
every day – to put politics aside and bring that North Dakota common
sense to Washington.
