Notes: As expected this proved to be a very lopsided race, although not as much as in the 2016 U.S. Senate race, when Sen. Schumer (D) tallied a 43.46 percentage point margin over his Republican challenger, Wendy Long. 

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D), appointed by Gov. David Paterson (D) to fill the seat vacated by Hillary Clinton, was sworn in on Jan. 26, 2009, elected to fill out the term in a Nov. 2010 special election, and elected to a full term in 2012.  She previously served in the House, elected in 2006 and 2008.  She faced Chele Farley (R), partner and managing director of Mistral Capital International. 

There was just one debate between the two candidates, a half-hour event on Oct. 25 in WABC-TV 7 studios in New York City (>). 

Gillibrand has been mentioned as a possible 2020 presidential candidate.  Her campaign committee reported receipts of more than $20 million for the cycle and ending cash on hand of more than $10 million; the excess funds could be transferred to a presidential campaign.  During the debate, asked directly by the moderator, "you will not run for president and you will serve out your six year-term?” Gillibrand replied, "I will serve my six-year term."
