"I propose Republicans do something different.
I propose we WIN!"

Maria Giuliani Stephens

It's been 12 years since Republicans won a statewide office. Any office. During that time, Democrats have won 14 statewide elections, Republicans, zero.

Minnesota has changed. Our politics have changed. But our candidates haven't.

It's time for a different candidate. Mary Giuliani Stephens is different, and she can win.

Even Democrats agree, with a DFL source stating their side should be "terrified" of Mary Giuliani Stephens, describing her as "a smart, sensible suburban woman ... who can crack their [Republicans] statewide losing streak. .. " (Source: Star Tribune, 12/17 /17)

WHY MARY
Executive Experience

As Mayor of Woodbury, Minnesota's ninth largest city, Mary has critical executive experience balancing budgets, proposing policy and effectively running government in a fiscally responsible manner; the same traits she will bring to govern our state.

Conservative Principles

Mary will lead with strong conservative governing principles. As Governor, you will know what Mary stands for and what she believes. This tough Italian Grandma with a spine of steel will say NO to the political insiders and wasteful spenders.

Mary Can Win!
The facts are clear. Previous statewide candidates have not won suburban swing voters by a large enough margin to overcome the Republican deficit in Minneapolis, St. Paul and Duluth. Mary has consistently won these voters, and she will do it again as our candidate for governor.

Tired of losing? Ready for a Republican Governor? Join Mary's Team and we will win in 2018!

NEW SOLUTIONS. BOLD LEADERSHIP.

Meet Mary

The Mary Giuliani Stephens story begins in 1914 when Mary's grandfather, Evaristo, "Nonno" Giuliani emigrated from the small Italian town of Poggio Moiano to Ellis Island, New York. Nonno soon moved to Pennsylvania, began work in the coal mines, and married three years later. From there, he opened his own grocery store, and became a father.

As a very young girl, Mary and her family moved to Rochester, Minnesota when her Dad was recruited to the Mayo Clinic to practice medicine.

Growing up in a Christian home and raised by her parents to value hard work, honesty and a strong family bond, Mary worked summer jobs throughout high school.

After high school, Mary attended the University of Michigan. During college and during the summer Mary worked a variety of jobs; waitressing, as a newspaper carrier, babysitting, and as a security officer. She also worked as a laborer painting steam pipes on an Air Force base.

She received a B.A. degree with distinction, and came back home to attend William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, where she graduated cum laude. She worked during the day to pay for school, and attended classes at night, while still finding time to be active in the Student Bar Association and as a member of the Law Review.

Following graduation, Mary went to work for Moore, Costello & Hart, and soon became a partner in the firm, where she practiced primarily in the area of construction litigation.

During this time, she met Greg Stephens, and the couple married in 1984. One year later, they moved to Woodbury, then a small community of 10,000, where they settled down, became more active in their faith and started a family, with Jane born in 1985, and David in 1988.

Mary continued to practice law until 1993, and became involved in the community, at her children's school, in youth sports, on the Woodbury Soccer Board, and at church, where she taught AWANA classes. She also worked part-time as an arbitrator and mediator.

Mary continues to hold her law license, though not currently practicing, and is admitted to practice before the Minnesota State Bar; U.S District Court, District of MN; US Circuit Court and US Tax Court.

Mary is also a graduate and former board member of the Minnesota Excellence in Public Service Series, a national leadership program that equips female leaders to serve in politics and government.

In 2006, Mary won a seat on the Woodbury City Council, and in 2010, was elected Mayor. She is serving her second 4-year term, and ran unopposed in her last election. She is active in the Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce and at Eagle Brook Church. Her hobbies include boating, skiing, spoiling her grandchildren, and family reunions spent each summer at resorts in Minnesota's lake country.

Mary on the Issues
Economy & Jobs
The foundation of a great economy is empowering the creativity and choices of individuals in a free marketplace. Politicians often believe they know better than consumers and businesses. But picking winners and losers never works, and government interference in market economies almost always results in slower economic growth and job creation.

Health Care
Minnesota has led the world in health care, but Obamacare is pushing our expenses up and our quality down. No governor can repeal Obamacare, but I am committed to working with the President to lift the burdens that federal interference has imposed on Minnesota's innovative capacity to improve health care.

Taxes
Throwing money at problems hasn't achieved better results. It's time we recognized that Minnesotans are taxed enough, and look to streamlining government to reduce taxes while providing the services that people need.

Life
I believe God creates all life, and in the sanctity of life from conception until natural death.

Second Amendment
I believe that the Second Amendment means what it says: that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Education
Education is the one thing Minnesota's state constitution ascribes as a duty to the state, yet too often results are not the criteria prioritized in the state's budget. Minnesota's education policy should be "Kids First," not unions, state or federal bureaucrats.

Spending
Families know better than government what will improve their quality of life, and lawmakers must recognize the fact that every dollar they tax and spend is a dollar less that our families have to invest in their own future.

Agriculture, Mining and Logg•ing
The best stewards of God's creation are those whose lives and work depend upon taking care of that land.
No family or community wants to pass onto the next generation a planet polluted and depleted by exploitation. Government should not treat farmers, miners, and loggers as if they are the enemy of a cleaner and more prosperous Minnesota.

Transportation
Government's role in transportation is to enable the most mobility of goods and people across our entire state, in urban, suburban, and rural areas. For too long the Metropolitan Council has overemphasized light rail transit, spending billions on rail lines that can only move a tiny fraction of people and not goods and services.
