Maggie Hassan
for U.S. Senate

Maggie on the issues:

Fiscal Responsibility: As Governor, Maggie has worked across the aisle to responsibly balance two consecutive budgets without a sales or income tax. Thanks to her careful budget management, New Hampshire ended fiscal year 2015 with a $62 million surplus and more than doubled its Rainy Day Fund. In the Senate, she will take the same bipartisan approach to eliminate wasteful spending for programs that don't work so we can focus on the right priorities that help regular families.

Education: Maggie froze tuition at our state universities for the first time in 25 years and lowered tuition at our community colleges. In the Senate, she will work to make college more affordable and reduce the burden of student loan debt so students are prepared for the jobs of tomorrow.

National Security: Governor Hassan has worked with Homeland Security officials, federal partners, and local police departments, leading New Hampshire's security efforts to keep Granite Staters safe. In the Senate, she will work to step up efforts to defeat ISIS and focus on maintaining our military superiority while ensuring that the use of our military might is a last resort.

Heroin and Opioid Crisis: Governor Hassan is working across party lines to implement a comprehensive strategy to combat the heroin and opioid epidemic, enacting measures to support law enforcement on the front lines while strengthening prevention, treatment, and recovery efforts. In the Senate, she will lead the fight to ensure that states have the resources they need to reverse the tide of this crisis.

Eonomy, Jobs and Innovation: As Governor, Maggie launched Live Free and Start, an award-winning initiative to make it easier for innovative businesses to start up and thrive; supported job training programs; and signed into law the New Hampshire Paycheck Fairness Act to ensure that women earn equal pay for equal work. In the Senate, she will work to implement her Innovate NH 2.0 plan to expand economic opportunity for everyone.

Social Security and Medicare: Maggie has a proven record of standing up for our seniors, signing legislation to strengthen seniors' protections and support caregivers - and the AARP has honored her for this work. As Senator, she will stand up against those trying to turn Medicare into a voucher program, and she will oppose efforts to privatize or cut Social Security.

Health Care: Maggie worked across party lines to pass a bipartisan plan to expand health coverage for nearly 50,000 Granite Staters and help reduce health care costs for businesses and families. In the Senate, she will take on big drug and insurance companies to fight against rising costs and make sure every New Hampshire resident has access to the affordable health care they need.

Women's Health: Maggie has always fought to protect a woman's right to access health care. In the Senate, Maggie will stand up to those seeking to defund Planned Parenthood. She will also protect health coverage that includes contraception, support efforts to make reproductive health services more affordable and accessible, and fight against efforts to undermine Roe v. Wade.
