ID Secretary of State

Notes:
Sen. Mike Crapo (R)'s conservative stances and record were more in tune with Idaho voters, and he won a fourth term by a wide margin, defeating investment banker Jerry Sturgill (D), a first-time candidate, and Ray Writz (C).

Crapo did face a couple of challenges along the way.  T
here was a 2012 DUI, and the tricky situation in Oct. 2016 following release of the Access Hollywood tapes—he un-endorsed Trump, but later reversed that to support the Republican ticket.

Crapo and Sturgill participated in a half-hour debate on Iowa Public Television's "Idaho Reports" on Oct. 14
(>)

Crapo, chief deputy whip and chair of the Senate Banking Committee, benefited from a sizable campaign warchest;
according to the FEC, for 2015-16 the Crapo campaign reported disbursements of $6.3 million compared to disbursements of $818,485 for the Sturgill campaign (>).

Campaign Managers
Mike Crapo:  On May 26, 2015 announced re-election team headed by senior advisors Todd Cranney, Travis Hawkes and Sarah Nelson of Riverwood Strategies.

Jerry Sturgill:
instead of campaign manager used contract labor incl. Lisa Anderson, Lucas Henken, and Aspen Joy Compton.
