Notes: Sen. Brian Schatz (D), appointed in Dec. 2012 and elected in a 2014 special election, won a full term in a very lopsided race, defeating former state legislator John Carroll (R) and three third party candidates. The Aug. 13 Democratic and Republican primaries were not competitive. Incumbent Schatz topped a field of five candidates with 86.2% of the vote. Carroll, who was also the Republican U.S. Senate nominee in 2000, tallied 74.5% of the vote ahead of three other candidates. According to the FEC, for 2015-16 the Schatz campaign reported disbursements of $2.6 million compared to disbursements of $54,417 for the Carroll campaign (>). . |
